Investigating The Phytotoxic Impacts Of Next-Generation Lithiated Cobalt Oxide Nanomaterials, Eric D. Ostovich Aug 2023

Investigating The Phytotoxic Impacts Of Next-Generation Lithiated Cobalt Oxide Nanomaterials, Eric D. Ostovich

Theses and Dissertations

Lithium cobalt oxide nanosheets (LCO) are a type of next-generation transition metal oxide (TMO) nanomaterial and are one of the most commonly used cathode materials utilized in Li-ion batteries (LIB’s). With rapidly growing popularity of LIB’s as an energy storage technology, many consumer electronics and high-end electric vehicles have begun to incorporate these LIB’s into their design. And thus, the manufacturing rate of this nanomaterial has also skyrocketed to levels of environmental significance. However, despite its high levels of production, there is still little means for proper disposal of this nanomaterial, thus resulting in a highly probable environmental release. As …

Two-Dimensional Nanomaterials And Nanocomposites For Sensing, Separation, And Energy Applications, Md Ashiqur Rahman Aug 2023

Two-Dimensional Nanomaterials And Nanocomposites For Sensing, Separation, And Energy Applications, Md Ashiqur Rahman

Theses and Dissertations

Two-dimension (2D) nanomaterials have gained popularity for the last few decades due to their excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. These unique properties of 2D nanomaterials can be exploited in various applications specially in sensor, energy, and separation devices. In this study, the sensing and energy generation performance of PVDF/PAni fiber mat systems made by the forcespinning method with and without graphene coating. The graphene-coated nanocomposites show an average output voltage of 75 mV (peak-to-peak) which is 300% higher compared to bare fiber mats and an output current of 24 mA (peak-to-peak) by gentle finger pressing. Moreover, the graphene-coated PVDF/PAni …

Novel Nanostructured Materials For Solar Fuel Production And Advanced Rechargeable Batteries, Cunyu Zhao Dec 2014

Novel Nanostructured Materials For Solar Fuel Production And Advanced Rechargeable Batteries, Cunyu Zhao

Theses and Dissertations

Non-renewable fossil fuels are the major sources to meet the energy, electricity and transportation demands of today's world. The over consumption of fossil fuels will lead to the increasing energy crisis and disastrous effects such as air pollution, global warming etc.

The primary greenhouse gas is CO2 mainly emits from the combustion of fossil fuels. Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 using sunlight as the energy input is a promising way to reduce CO2 level in the atmosphere and in the meantime produce alternative fuels such as CO, methane, methanol, etc. Among the various photocatalyst materials reported, nanomaterial TiO2 is the most …
