Reduction Of Polyatomic Ion Interferences In Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry With Cryogenic Desolvation , Luís Cláudio Alves Jan 1993

Reduction Of Polyatomic Ion Interferences In Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry With Cryogenic Desolvation , Luís Cláudio Alves

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A new desolvation scheme for the introduction of aqueous and organic samples into an argon inductively coupled plasma (ICP) is described. The aerosol generated by the nebulizer is heated (+140°C) and cooled (-80°C) repeatedly. The dried aerosol is then injected into an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS);The metal oxide count rate ratios (MO[superscript]+/M[superscript]+) were drastically reduced to ≤ 0.05% for all the elements tested with the exception of the UO[superscript]+/U[superscript]+ ratio which was reduced to 0.1%. However, the addition of ~2% of acetylene or H[subscript]2 to the ...

Surface Properites Of Coal And Their Effects On The Selective Oil Agglomeration Process , Xiaoping Qiu Jan 1992

Surface Properites Of Coal And Their Effects On The Selective Oil Agglomeration Process , Xiaoping Qiu

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The heat of immersion of coal in water and various organic liquids provides a useful means for characterizing the surface of the material, while the oil-water-coal, three-phase contact angle provides a characterization of the coal surface as well as the interactions among oil, water, and coal. Such characterizations may provide an indication of how well the coal will respond to cleaning by the froth flotation and oil agglomeration methods which are controlled by the surface properties of the material; The heat of immersion of two types of coal in water and in several different organic liquids was determined with a ...

An Analysis Of The Kinetics For Oil Agglomeration Of Coal , David Tyson Jan 1990

An Analysis Of The Kinetics For Oil Agglomeration Of Coal , David Tyson

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

In batch tests with graphite, 2 min. were required to produce a maximum shift towards larger particle sizes in the distribution curves for a stirring speed of 21,000 rpm, slurry concentration of 2 wt%, and oil dosage of 10 v/w%. For a stirring speed of 650 rpm, 4 min. were required for the maximum shift. When the oil was pre-emulsified and then added to the slurry, the maximum shift required 1 min. at 650 rpm. In all these cases, the distribution curves showed particle size reductions after their maximum shift. In the case of 650 rpm, the shift ...

Comparative Studies Of Kriging, Multiquadric-Biharmonic And Other Methods For Solving Mineral Resources Problems , Supachai Sirayanone Jan 1988

Comparative Studies Of Kriging, Multiquadric-Biharmonic And Other Methods For Solving Mineral Resources Problems , Supachai Sirayanone

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The multiquadric (MQ) method was discovered by Rolland L. Hardy in the late 1960s. It is a true scattered data, grid-free scheme for mapping of surfaces and volumes. It is a physically deterministic process and is related to concepts of the potential. With proper constraints it satisfies equilibrium and minimum energy conditions. The geostatistical kriging (K) method, developed by matreron in the 1960s, is a stochastic process procedure based on the theory of regionalized variables. It is claimed to be different from classical Statistics and Probability;;This dissertation consists of two major research areas: a comparative study of both the ...
