Material Synthesis And Machine Learning For Additive Manufacturing, Jaime Eduardo Regis
Material Synthesis And Machine Learning For Additive Manufacturing, Jaime Eduardo Regis
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
The goal of this research was to address three key challenges in additive manufacturing (AM), the need for feedstock material, minimal end-use fabrication from lack of functionality in commercially available materials, and the need for qualification and property prediction in printed structures. The near ultraviolet-light assisted green reduction of graphene oxide through L-ascorbic acid was studied with to address the issue of low part strength in additively manufactured parts by providing a functional filler that can strengthen the polymer matrix. The synthesis of self-healing epoxy vitrimers was done to adapt high strength materials with recyclable properties for compatibility with AM …
Laser Surface Treatment And Laser Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing Study Using Custom Designed 3d Printer And The Application Of Machine Learning In Materials Science, Hao Wen
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is a laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) based additive manufacturing (AM) method, which uses a laser beam to melt the selected areas of the metal powder bed. A customized SLM 3D printer that can handle a small quantity of metal powders was built in the lab to achieve versatile research purposes. The hardware design, electrical diagrams, and software functions are introduced in Chapter 2. Several laser surface engineering and SLM experiments were conducted using this customized machine which showed the functionality of the machine and some prospective fields that this machine can be utilized. Chapter 3 …
Computational Frameworks For Multi-Robot Cooperative 3d Printing And Planning, Laxmi Prasad Poudel
Computational Frameworks For Multi-Robot Cooperative 3d Printing And Planning, Laxmi Prasad Poudel
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation proposes a novel cooperative 3D printing (C3DP) approach for multi-robot additive manufacturing (AM) and presents scheduling and planning strategies that enable multi-robot cooperation in the manufacturing environment. C3DP is the first step towards achieving the overarching goal of swarm manufacturing (SM). SM is a paradigm for distributed manufacturing that envisions networks of micro-factories, each of which employs thousands of mobile robots that can manufacture different products on demand. SM breaks down the complicated supply chain used to deliver a product from a large production facility from one part of the world to another. Instead, it establishes a network …
The Effect Of Incorporating End-User Customization Into Additive Manufacturing Designs, Jonathan D. Ashley
The Effect Of Incorporating End-User Customization Into Additive Manufacturing Designs, Jonathan D. Ashley
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In the realm of additive manufacturing there is an increasing trend among makers to create designs that allow for end-users to alter them prior to printing an artifact. Online design repositories have tools that facilitate the creation of such artifacts. There are currently no rules for how to create a good customizable design or a way to measure the degree of customization within a design. This work defines three types of customizations found in additive manufacturing and presents three metrics to measure the degree of customization within designs based on the three types of customization. The goal of this work …
A Haptic Surface Robot Interface For Large-Format Touchscreen Displays, Mark Price
A Haptic Surface Robot Interface For Large-Format Touchscreen Displays, Mark Price
Masters Theses
This thesis presents the design for a novel haptic interface for large-format touchscreens. Techniques such as electrovibration, ultrasonic vibration, and external braked devices have been developed by other researchers to deliver haptic feedback to touchscreen users. However, these methods do not address the need for spatial constraints that only restrict user motion in the direction of the constraint. This technology gap contributes to the lack of haptic technology available for touchscreen-based upper-limb rehabilitation, despite the prevalent use of haptics in other forms of robotic rehabilitation. The goal of this thesis is to display kinesthetic haptic constraints to the touchscreen user …
Creating Multi-Functional G-Code For Multi-Process Additive Manufacturing, Efrain Aguilera Jr
Creating Multi-Functional G-Code For Multi-Process Additive Manufacturing, Efrain Aguilera Jr
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Additive manufacturing (AM) started over thirty years ago and with it a manufacturing revolution that moves industrial production into the personal home. With recent interest shifting into multi-functional parts fabricated through AM technologies, unified systems are being developed. Merging different manufacturing technologies into one single machine is a challenge but undergoing research has shown promise in the development of multi-functional systems. Concurrent work is being done in the software, automation, and hardware aspect of multi-functional systems. An effort to use industry compatible Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to design multi-functional parts including circuits, micro-machining, and foil embedding then exporting and …
