On this research, the results of an analysis made of a Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (sCO2) Recuperated Closed Brayton Cycle (RCBC) done by performing theorical calculations and comparing it to the results obtained with the use of the software ASPEN Plus will be presented. To demonstrate and determine that this software is a useful tool for modeling the proposed type of cycle, a preliminary comparison was made to verify with previous studies found in literature. Halogen-containing reactive materials could be used for mitigating the spread of hazardous, active biological microorganisms aerosolized as a result of explosion. The present work exhibits experimental results on the combustion of mechanically alloyed aluminum-iodine (Al-I2) powder mixed with Fe2O3, CuO, MoO3, Bi2O3, and I2O5. Wet mixing was used to prepare the samples, which were then compacted into pellets and ignited with a CO2 laser. A chamber was designed and built to accommodate for combustion and collection of products, and the available laser ignition setup was modified to enable combustion experiments with rapidly burning gas-generating mixtures. Models of two-phase flow in porous media are of practical interest in many fields of science and engineering such as in oil recovery and hydrology. For this class of problem, an immiscible fluid is injected into a single-phase, porous medium to evict its valuable, native fluid. Because the aim is to amass as much of the indigenous fluid as possible, models attempt to output reliable flow regime patterns depicting how well the invading fluid displaces the native fluid.

Finding and developing a safe and effective method for hydrogen storage is integral to its use as an alternative source of energy. The goal of the studies described in this Thesis was to investigate the feasibility of developing combustible hydrogen-generating compositions based on ammonia borane and novel energetic materials such as nanocomposite and mechanically alloyed reactive materials, recently obtained by Prof. Edward Dreizin's team at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The study presented here describes an investigation of an oxidation scale of a fully-sintered Y2O3-ZrB2-TiC composite exposed in air at 1173K. Upon oxidation of the boride/carbide, a ZrO2-TiO2 was expected to form similar to the ZrO2-SiO2 dual scale of an oxidized ZrB2-SiC. The 47wt% Y2O3-38wt%ZrB2-16wt%TiC composite formed a dual scale consisting primarily of an Y2O3-ZrO2-TiC inner scale with an outer scale of ZrO2-TiO2-Y2O3.

The samples oxidized with a parabolic layer growth allowing the calculation of the effective diffusion coefficient indicating that the oxidation was controlled by oxygen ingress through primarily the ZrO2-Y2O3 phase. The oxygen potential between the inner layer …
