The project given to the design team was a request from ITW Deltar to improve their packaging system for some production machines in cell C. The primary goal of the project is to optimize the safety and workflow of the packaging systems in cell C. The safety of the packaging system will be determined using the REBA risk assessment number. The workflow improvement is determined through analysis of the packaging time and the walking distances of the workers.

Microscale devices can be found in applications ranging from sensors to structural components. The dominance of surface forces at the microscale hinders the assembly processes through nonlinear interactions that are difficult to model for automation, limiting designs of microsystems to primarily monolithic structures. Methods for modeling surface forces must be presented for viable manufacturing of devices consisting of multiple microparts. This paper proposes the implementation of supervised machine learning models to aid in automated micromanipulation tasks for advanced manufacturing applications. The SAE Baja Front Suspension Senior Design Team has successfully chosen a design alternative to build, test, and possibly revise as this project moves forward. The team learned about the problems that occurred with the steering and suspension systems last year at the SAE Baja competition from Dr. Allen and ONU Baja team members that attended competition last year (which includes senior design team member John Saliba). After understanding the failures that occurred last year, the design team set design goals with a focus on increased durability, increased driver control and vehicle handling, and reduced weight.

Additive manufacturing is a rapidly developing technology which promises to drastically reduce the cost and waste associated with manufacturing parts. However, current systems of additive manufacturing used for creating metal parts which are suitable for use in the aerospace, automotive, and defense industries are complex, expensive, and not robust enough to produce a wide range of part features and geometries. In the soft robotics field, hyperelastic polymer films are used in conjunction with eutectic gallium indium to create flexible strain gages. However, rapid large scale manufacturing methods of such sensors have yet to be developed.

Developing new manufacturing methods will allow for researchers to build and test new soft sensor concepts faster but also pave the way for future mass-production of these sensors for consumer or industrial consumption.
