"In the free molecule regime, Knudsen number greater than 10, heat is transferred from a solid by radiation and conduction. The ability of a surface to emit radiant energy is governed by a surface property called emittance while the surface property which apparently regulates the amount of heat transferred by conduction is called the thermal accommodation coefficient. This thesis presents the results of an experimental investigation to determine a relationship between these two properties, emittance and thermal accommodation coefficient.
