Biodiesel Production, Characterization, Diesel Engine Performance, And Emission Characteristics Of Methyl Esters From Aphanamixis Polystachya Oil Of Bangladesh Feb 2015

Biodiesel Production, Characterization, Diesel Engine Performance, And Emission Characteristics Of Methyl Esters From Aphanamixis Polystachya Oil Of Bangladesh

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

This paper presents the prospect of biodiesel derived from Aphanamixis polystachya oil in diesel engine. The study deals with the physicochemical properties of A. polystachya methyl ester (APME) and its blends followed by evaluation of performance and emission characteristics of APME5 and APME10 in a multi-cylinder diesel engine. It has been observed that the properties of biodiesel and its blends are compatible with the ASTM D6751 and ASTM D7467 standards, respectively. It was found that, APME5 and APME10 showed an average 0.9% and 1.81% reduction in torque and 0.9% and 2.1% reduction in brake power (BP), and 0.87% and 1.78% …

Effect Of Alcohol-Gasoline Blends Optimization On Fuel Properties, Performance And Emissions Of A Si Engine Jan 2015

Effect Of Alcohol-Gasoline Blends Optimization On Fuel Properties, Performance And Emissions Of A Si Engine

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

This study, as an observation, put its utmost effort to emphasize on the development of various physicochemical properties using multiple alcohols (C-2 to C-6) at different ratios compared to that of the conventional ethanol gasoline blend. To optimize the properties of multiple alcohol-gasoline blends, properties of each fuel were measured first. An optimization tool of Microsoft Excel "Solver" was used for obtaining the optimum blend. Using optimizing tool, three optimum blend ratios were selected which possessed maximum heating value (MaxH), maximum research octane number (MaxR) and maximum petroleum displacement (MaxD). These blends were used for testing in a four cylinder …

Comparative Evaluation Of The Blends Of Gas-To-Liquid (Gtl) Fuels And Biodiesels With Diesel At High Idling Conditions: An In-Depth Analysis On Engine Performance And Environment Pollutants Dec 2014

Comparative Evaluation Of The Blends Of Gas-To-Liquid (Gtl) Fuels And Biodiesels With Diesel At High Idling Conditions: An In-Depth Analysis On Engine Performance And Environment Pollutants

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

This study focuses on the physicochemical fuel characteristics and engine performance-emission features of three prospective alternative transportation fuels: Alexandrian laurel biodiesel (ALBD), jatropha biodiesel (JBD) and GTL fuel at high idling conditions. The blends of GTL fuel (G10, G20), JBD (J10, J20) and ALBD (AL10, AL20) with diesel had been investigated in a multi-cylinder diesel engine at different load-speed conditions. Analysis of the fuel properties showed a linear variation of the major fuel properties with an increase of alternative fuel quantity in the blends. Engine performance test results revealed an average decrease of brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) (ca. 8.65-12.26%) …
