The work of this thesis details the experimental testing, development, and optimization of the spools and system of the variable orifice damper system. The fixed orifice system was developed from concept, tested, and then redesigned. The experimental testing for the orifice selection directed the optimization and final design for the fixed orifice damper system. The testing focused on the evaluation of pressure drops and flow rate for static testing. The dynamic testing evaluated the displacement rate and force loading. Design, testing, and optimization worked to achieve designed flow rates and pressure drops provided by Amsted Rail based upon simulations. When …
