A Robust Method To Determine The Coordinates Of A Wave Source For 3-D Position Sensing, Fernando Figueroa, Ajay Mahajan

Dr. Ajay Mahajan

This work addresses a method for location of a wave source by observing the wave as it reaches various observation points (receivers), or conversely, this is also a method for location of a receiver at an observation point, by probing with waves generated at various sources. The terms observing and probing imply measurement of time-of-flight (TOF) between a source (transmitter) and a receiver. Practical implications of this work include development and improvement of systems that triangulate the position of a point of interest based on TOF measurements to observation points. Typical applications to benefit from this work include 3-D digitization ...

In-Plane Deformation Measurements Using Digital Image Correlation Of Ultrasonic C-Scan Images, Bradley Regez, Ying Zhang, Tsuchin Chu, Ajay Mahajan Apr 2015

In-Plane Deformation Measurements Using Digital Image Correlation Of Ultrasonic C-Scan Images, Bradley Regez, Ying Zhang, Tsuchin Chu, Ajay Mahajan

Dr. Ajay Mahajan

The extension of digital image correlation method to ultrasonic C-scan acoustical speckle images of the bulk is presented in this paper. The approach discussed in this paper is ideally suited to composite materials such as particulate composites, fiber-reinforced plastics, and laminated composites. It can also be effectively employed for critical surfaces that are not within view, such as interfaces and back surfaces. Images taken prior to and after deformation are analyzed to estimate a deformation profile from changes in the image. The aim of the method is to find the displacements and strains of small subsets from the second image ...

A Fuzzy Logic Based Decision Making System For Fusing Measurements From An E-Puffer And E-Sniffer Sensing Systems For Detecting Explosives, Sanjeevi Chitikeshi, Ajay Mahajan, Tsuchin Chu, Jarlen Don Apr 2015

A Fuzzy Logic Based Decision Making System For Fusing Measurements From An E-Puffer And E-Sniffer Sensing Systems For Detecting Explosives, Sanjeevi Chitikeshi, Ajay Mahajan, Tsuchin Chu, Jarlen Don

Dr. Ajay Mahajan

This is primarily a concept paper and describes a decision making system that fuses the output from cold plasma based E-Puffer and E-Sniffer sensing systems to reliably detect explosive traces. This paper describes research and development of a novel non-contact method to detect explosive bearing personnel, baggage and vehicles that is based on the integration of a multitude of key technologies, primarily cold/atmospheric plasma and pattern recognition/decision making capabilities. This work will ultimately lead to a viable system that can be installed in doorways of buildings, garages, baggage carousals, etc. that will trigger a positive response when detecting ...
