Metal matrix composite (MMC) with 7xxx aluminum matrix is potential for ballistic applications due to the combination of strength, toughness, and light weight. Previous study successfully produced aluminum-based composites with SiC particles which were able to stop type III bullet, however cracks remained on back of the plate. Therefore, in this research, SiC was replaced by zirconia (ZrO2) due to its high fracture toughness. Ti-B grain refiner was added to further improve toughness through grain boundary strengthening mechanism. The purpose of this work is the chemical modification of cotton fabrics with natural globular protein. Modification was carried out in the process of finishing cotton fabrics, after decoction and bleaching in a continuous mode. The effect of modification on the strength, protein content and functional groups of cotton fabric has been studied. According to the results obtained using the AUTOGRAPH AGS-N machine, it was found that the modification of cotton fabrics with a solution of globular protein increases the strength of the treated fabrics, depending on the concentration of the modifier and the temperature regime. Urban farming can enhance the lives of communities and help reduce food scarcity. This paper presents a conceptual prototype of an efficient urban farming community that can be scaled for a single apartment building or an entire community across all global geoeconomics regions, including densely populated cities and rural, developing towns and communities. Decaffeination by microbial degradation is currently the most optimal and low-cost approach, involving only microbial cells and/or their enzymes. The bacterium was characterized using a series of biochemical tests. Positive results were obtained from carbohydrate fermentation, citrate utilization, and catalase tests, while negative results were obtained from Voges-Proskauer (VP) and indole tests. Three different caffeine concentrations of 0.25%, 0.4%, and 2% were tested and measured through Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry (GC-MS) analysis. The highest caffeine reduction (89.25%) was found when 0.25% caffeine was used in the media. Only a small amount of caffeine was reduced to 0.4% and 2%, with 34.78% …

Hydrocarbon releases might result in serious consequences in various aspects. In addition to the contribution to environmental pollution, repetitive leakages need high repair costs. This study aim is to minimize potential repetitive leakage for other typical 3-phase piping systems. We conducted the risk assessment by adopting Risk Based Inspection (RBI) API 581 to identify risk level, calculating piping lifetime, recommended inspection plan and mitigations. The most relevant root causes can be obtained through quantitative Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). Energy consumption in buildings is a crucial concern globally, prompting researchers to explore innovative solutions to mitigate its impact. This study investigates the optimization of building envelopes and roof shading systems of existing buildings in Indonesia to realize notable energy savings. Multiple scenarios were explored, with modifications to building envelopes and roof shading, highlighting the overall thermal transfer value as a key parameter. Using EnergyPlus simulations, the efficacy of natural ventilation in corridors and roof shading modifications was assessed in reducing energy consumption. At present, the global center of the ship breaking and recycling industry is in South Asia, specifically Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. These three countries account for 70–80 percent of the international recycling market for ocean-going vessels, with China and Turkey covering most of the remaining market. Only about 5 percent of global volume is scrapped outside these five countries. This multi-methods study explores changes in engineering interest and identity of middle and high school students (n = 79) attending introductory-level engineering summer camps at a large western land grant university. Paperboard packages were tested mechanically to investigate influence of forming forces on torsional, tensile, and compressive deformation. The packages were paperboard trays which were press formed with different pressing forces and blank holder forces. Deformation of the trays was observed with torsion, compression, and tensile tests. A statistical analysis of test results was conducted to derive optimal forming forces. Increased pressing force yielded desirable deformation characteristics with the trays. Blank holder force had largest impact on the compressive deformation. Interaction of the pressing force and the blank holder force influenced the torsional and the compressive deformation. The effect of hard chromium coating on AISI D2's mechanical properties and wear resistance has been investigated using the electrolysis technique with varying current and coating duration. The variations of current used are 0.8 A, 1.2 A, and 1.6 A, while the coating duration used are 300, 600 and 900 seconds. Characterization of the films was conducted using SEM-EDS, and XRD. It can be observed from SEM characterization that the chrome grains resulted from the electroplating process are fine. The XRD identify chrome compund on the surface coating. SM570TMC is high-strength steel (HSS), which is commonly used in structures that require higher-strength components. In this research, submerged arc welding (SAW)-welded SM570 TMC steels' microstructure and mechanical characteristics were examined. SM570 plates with 12mm thickness were multi-pass welded by using a 3.0 mm diameter of ESAB OK Autrod 13.40 (AWS A5.23: EG) filler metal. The joint design is a single V multi-pass butt weld with a backing strip. Two welded joints were prepared by using heat inputs of 2.2 and 2.9 kJ/mm. High temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) is a commonly observed harm component in carbon steels exposed to high temperature and pressure in a hydrogen-rich environment. The Georgia Southern University Libraries launched a 3D printing program for students in July 2022. Prior to launch, library employees at two of Georgia Southern University’s campuses investigated options for implementing safe, affordable, and sustainable 3D printing in existing academic libraries without retrofitting costly ventilation systems into existing facilities. This study was focused on determining the effect of repeated austenitization and quenching on mechanical properties and microstructure. The experiment was carried out in a rolled quencher facility with a heat treatment process of one to two times, with parameters of an austenizing temperature of 9500C and quenching at a temperature of 8500C with pressurized water media. Testing of specimens, including microstructure observations and hardness testing. The repeated heat treatment process showed an increase in hardness of 0.79% on one-time repeated heat treatment and 1.65% on two repeated heat treatments. Abstract. Over a rough seabed or on seabed subject to scour, freespans can occur when contact between a subsea pipeline and the seabed is lost over an acceptable distance.
