In this research, the performance analysis of a solar-powered desalination system incorporating a single slope-slope solar still and an evacuated tube solar collector is theoretically investigated. The system comprises a solar evacuated tube that absorbs solar radiation, transferring heat to saline water. This water then flows into a solar still, where it absorbs solar energy, boosting the evaporation rate. Two solar distillers, namely the conventional solar distiller (Still-I) and solar still integrated with evacuated tube solar collector (Still-II), are simulated and analyzed under identical outdoor conditions in Tanta, Egypt. A comprehensive theoretical model, developed using FORTAN programming, simulates the performance …

Heat Transfer Enhancement In Nanofluid Flows Augmented By Magnetic Flux, Kozhikkatil Sunil Arjun, Rakesh Kumar
Makara Journal of Technology
Heat transfer enhancement could be realized using magnetohydrodynamics together with nanofluids specifically in flow micro-convection in a microtube, flow past a vertical porous plate, and square duct flow with discrete heat sources numerically. A critical value for the Rayleigh number, a maximum value for the magnetic field strength, a low Reynolds number, and volume concentrations exists for thermal enhancement to simulate nanofluid flow in a microtube. Heat transfer enhancement is observed with a reduction in the magnetic field strength in a flow past a heated porous vertical plate. Alumina nanofluid subjected to Hartmann number 10 can boost 81% enhancement in …

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
The Heat transfer is one of the most serious challenges that exist in a supersonic nozzle flow. The combustion chamber wall and the nozzle are exposed to high-temperature gases during combustion and gas expansion, which can eventually lead to structural failure. This paper reports a computational study of steady and transient conjugate heat transfer in regenerative water cooled nozzle. Numerical computation solved Reynolds-averaged equations based on RSM-Omega turbulence model coupling with solid-phase heat conduction equation and with coolant-phase. The effect of four inlet cooled approach length 0 inch, 6 inch, 12 inch and 18 inch are studied and validated against …

Accomplishments Of Endwall Contouring On Heat Transfer In A Passage Of A Turbine Blade, Kozhikkatil Sunil Arjun, Tide Porathoor Sunny, Narayanan Biju
Makara Journal of Technology
The study explores axisymmetric endwall contouring with emphasis on the design of novel endwalls capable of heat load reduction. Optimizations with parameterization numerically determined by the endwall of flat shape led to the endwall of the contoured shape with substantial depletion of heat transfer in the passage of the vane. Heat transfer attributes for the generated contoured endwalls were analyzed for the exit Reynolds number of 2 × 106 . Endwall three-dimensional contouring resulted in remarkable changes in secondary flow vortices, jet-to-secondary flow interaction, and film cooling effectiveness on the flat endwall. The results pointed out that the axisymmetric convergent …

The main investigations of a novel solar thermal application known as SCPP are summarized in this paper. It is a method of producing electricity from solar energy that relies on the fact that air rises when it is heated. An adequate position within a tall chimney can be utilized to position a turbine to turn it, creating an updraft that can be used to generate power. This system's specifications, design, construction, and use are all covered in the paper along with experimental and analytical research related to it. It also emphasizes the development and execution of SCPP programs.

This study involved the application of artificial neural network (ANN) as a new approach for thermoacoustic refrigerators to predict the temperature difference across the stack under some operating conditions. One ANN model for a standing wave thermoacoustic refrigerator, had been developed based on the experimental data from other literature. Temperature difference across the stack was chosen as a response to the input parameters, mean pressure and frequency in the proposed ANN model. A multi-layer feed-forward neural network with a back propagation algorithm had been proposed for predicting the temperature difference across the stack of the thermoacoustic refrigerator. This proposed ANN …

Multiphase Energetic Experiments: Application Of Multiple Object Tracking, Sarah Davis Finch
The Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research
The process of using computer vision for multiple-objects tracking is incredibly complex. Thus, simulated data was created to mimic the complexities of more realistic data. These test cases would isolate a few of the inaccuracies of real data and allow the researchers to determine what factor of said data is the most detrimental to the object-tracking process. Due to the large quantity of factors at play, Cotter’s method was used to analyze the significance of each factor. The number of detections and the number of centroids were the main dependent results that were utilized to analyze the data. The overall …

Fully-Developed Fire Temperature In A Compartment With Varying Wood Fuel Loads, Keisuke Himoto, Masaki Noaki, Ken Matsuyama
Progress in Scale Modeling, an International Journal
Appropriate evaluation of fire behavior during the fully-developed phase is important for assessing the risk of building collapse and fire spread to adjacent buildings. In this study, a series of model experiments was conducted to investigate the fire behavior in compartments with varying wood fuel loads. Under small opening conditions, the increase in the wood fuel load had no notable effect on the heat release rate (HRR), but increased the fire duration and gas temperature. In certain cases, wood surface combustion continued even after flame ejection from the opening had ended, which maintained a high gas temperature for a long …

Spray combustion used in aerospace applications like the liquid rocket engines, gas turbines or any other controlled environment for that matter places a huge emphasis on safe and effective operations. These applications make use of relatively small amounts of propellant volumes to generate enormous amounts of energy through combustion for producing thrust. For such cases involving enormous energy interactions, combustion comes with its own set of challenges. The predominant challenge among them all is that of …
Modeling And Computation Of The Maximum Braking Energy Speed For Transport Category Airplanes, Nihad E. Daidzic
Modeling And Computation Of The Maximum Braking Energy Speed For Transport Category Airplanes, Nihad E. Daidzic
Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering
Transport-category or FAR/CS 25 certified airplanes may occasionally become braking energy capacity limited. Such limitation may exist when heavy airplanes are departing airports at high-density altitudes, on relatively long runways, and/or possibly with some tailwind component. A maximum braking energy VMBE speed exists which may limit the maximum allowable takeoff decision/action speed V1. The ever-existing possibility of high-speed rejected takeoff in such conditions may also limit the airplane gross weight for declared available distances. To gain deeper insights and acquire better understanding of the topic, a theoretical model of the maximum braking energy and the related VMBE speed for T-category …

A Simplified Model Of The Internal Combustion Engine, Christofer Neff
Undergraduate Journal of Mathematical Modeling: One + Two
This project further investigates a model of a simplified internal combustion engine considered by Kranc in 1977. Using Euler’s method for ordinary differential equations, we modeled the interaction between the engine’s flywheel and thermodynamic power cycle. Approximating with sufficiently small time intervals (0.001 seconds over a period of 12 seconds) reproduced Kranc’s results with the engine having an average angular velocity of 72/sec.
