Performance Of A Solar Seawater Distillation With A Triangle Prism Cover And A Fin-Type Absorber, Risse Entikaria Rachmanita, Miftah Khoirul Umam

Makara Journal of Technology

Solar-powered distillation is a seawater distillation method that utilizes solar heat as its main energy source for the purpose producing freshwater and a by-product of the distillation process in the form of salt. This study aims to determine the performance of a solar seawater distillation design with a semi-batch system by combining a fin-type absorber plate and a triangular prism cover. This design is equipped with a reflector and absorber plate, which has a surface area of 0.3969 m2 with a volume capacity of seawater that can be accommodated in a basin of ±24 liters. It uses a knockdown system …

Electrical Response Of Thermoelectric Generator To Geometry Variation Under Transient Thermal Boundary Condition, Elias Yazdanshenas, Alireza Rezania, Meysam Karami Rad, Lasse Rosendahl Jan 2018

Electrical Response Of Thermoelectric Generator To Geometry Variation Under Transient Thermal Boundary Condition, Elias Yazdanshenas, Alireza Rezania, Meysam Karami Rad, Lasse Rosendahl

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications

A three-dimensional numerical model is applied in this study to illustrate the electrical response of a thermoelectric generator (TEG) during transient heat flux at the hot side. In this work, various types of thermal boundary conditions are considered to evaluate the performance of the TEG. Thus, a TEG under pulsed heat flux is studied numerically, and the numerical model is verified by experimental results. With the consideration of a defined reference geometry, different heat flux frequencies are applied in order to evaluate the corresponding electrical output by the TEG. In addition, variation of the module performance for various TEG leg …

Ni-Doped Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6-Δ As Anode Materials For Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Guoliang Xiao, Siwei Wang, Ye Lin, Zhibin Yang, Minfang Han, Fanglin Chen Jan 2014

Ni-Doped Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6-Δ As Anode Materials For Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Guoliang Xiao, Siwei Wang, Ye Lin, Zhibin Yang, Minfang Han, Fanglin Chen

Faculty Publications

10% Ni-doped Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6-δ with A-site deficiency is prepared to induce in situ precipitation of B-site metals under anode conditions in solid oxide fuel cells. XRD, SEM and TEM results show that a significant amount of nano-sized Ni-Fe alloy metal phase has precipitated out from Sr1.9Fe1.4Ni0.1Mo0.5O6-δ upon reduction at 800C in H2. The conductivity of the reduced composite reaches 29 S cm−1 at 800C in H2. Furthermore, fuel cell performance of the composite anode Sr1.9 …

Static Balancing Of The Cal Poly Wind Turbine Rotor, Derek Simon Aug 2012

Static Balancing Of The Cal Poly Wind Turbine Rotor, Derek Simon

Master's Theses

The balancing of a wind turbine rotor is a crucial step affecting the machine’s performance, reliability, and safety, as it directly impacts the dynamic loads on the entire structure.

A rotor can be balanced either statically or dynamically. A method of rotor balancing was developed that achieves both the simplicity of static balancing and the accuracy of dynamic balancing. This method is best suited, but not limited, to hollow composite blades of any size. The method starts by quantifying the mass and center of gravity of each blade. A dynamic calculation is performed to determine the theoretical shaking force on …

Performance Analysis Of Solar Walls In Minnesota: Final Project Report, Patrick A. Tebbe, Saeed Moaveni, Louis Schwartzkopf Sep 2011

Performance Analysis Of Solar Walls In Minnesota: Final Project Report, Patrick A. Tebbe, Saeed Moaveni, Louis Schwartzkopf

Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department Publications

A study of unglazed transpired solar collectors (referred to as solar walls for this report), has been undertaken. Several installations in the Twin Cities, MN region have been identified, researched, and studied. A combination of weather stations, data logging systems, and building energy management systems were used to collect experimental data on four buildings. Performance calculations were then performed for these buildings and compared with various performance/modeling tools.

Experimental And Numerical Investigations Of Tubular-Shaped Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (Dmfcs), Travis R. Ward Aug 2011

Experimental And Numerical Investigations Of Tubular-Shaped Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (Dmfcs), Travis R. Ward

Master's Theses

This study focuses on both the numerical and experimental investigations of the novel, passively operated, tubular-shaped, Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) as an alternative geometry to the traditional planar-shaped fuel cell. The benefit of the tubular geometry compared to the planar geometry is the higher instantaneous volumetric power density provided by the larger active area, which could be beneficial in applications that require a high instantaneous power while occupying a small volume. First, a two-dimensional, two-phase, non-isothermal model was developed to investigate the steady-state performance and design characteristics of a tubular-shaped, passive DMFC. It was found that a higher ambient …

Optimization Of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Interconnect Design, Krishna C. Pulagam Jan 2009

Optimization Of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Interconnect Design, Krishna C. Pulagam

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Performance of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) is dependent of a set of complex physical and chemical processes occurring simultaneously. Interconnect for SOFC is important as it provides electrical connection between anode of one individual cell to the cathode of neighboring one. It also acts as a physical barrier to protect the air electrode material from the reducing environment of the fuel on the fuel electrode side, and it equally prevents the fuel electrode material from contacting with oxidizing atmosphere of the oxidant electrode side. A three-dimensional numerical model has been developed to evaluate the SOFC including the current collector, …

Optimization Of Channel Geometry In A Proton Exchange Membrane (Pem) Fuel Cell, Jephanya Kasukurthi Jan 2009

Optimization Of Channel Geometry In A Proton Exchange Membrane (Pem) Fuel Cell, Jephanya Kasukurthi

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Bipolar plates are the important components of the PEM fuel cell. The flow distribution inside the bipolar plate should be uniform. Non-uniform flow distribution inside the bipolar leads to poor performance of the fuel cell and wastage of expensive catalyst. A single channel PEM fuel cell is taken and electrochemical analysis is carried out on it. The results are compared with the available published experimental data obtained by other research group, and they are found to be in good agreement. A baseline design of the bipolar plate is taken and numerical analysis is carried out. The results show that the …

Australian Tractor Test Report No. 41 : The Massey-Ferguson 135, G H. Vasey, F. T. Baillie

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

THE Massey-Ferguson MF-135 is a general purpose tractor of 31 drawbar horsepower. It has 14.9 x 24 pneumatic tyres, and a three-speed gear box with a ratio change which, in the standard model, gives six forward and two reverse gears.

The model tested was also fitted with the optional "Multipower" facility, which gives an "on-the-go" shift to a higher speed for each gear, thus providing 12 forward and four reverse gears.
