Thermal Management Using Microelectromechanical Systems Bimorph Cantilever Beams, Ronald A. Coutu Jr., Robert S. Lafleur, John P. K. Walton, Laverne A. Starman

AFIT Patents

A cooling structure for a heat source, where the cooling structure includes a beam having a first end and a second end and a length disposed therebetween. The beam is formed at least in part of a first material having a first thermal coefficient of expansion and a second material having a second thermal coefficient of expansion, where the first thermal coefficient of expansion is different from the second thermal coefficient of expansion. The first end of the beam is thermally connected to the heat source, such that heat generated by the heat source is conducted along the length of …

Generic Project Plan For A Mobile Robotics System, Jay Anilkumar Joshi Oct 2019

Generic Project Plan For A Mobile Robotics System, Jay Anilkumar Joshi

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This thesis discussed the mobile land robots for the robotic competitions. The topics discussed in this thesis are robotic systems, mobile land robots, robot competitions, and example of robot designs. Question-answer sections are added to help understand the requirements to build the robot. Examples include three different teams who participated in different robotic competitions to provide a context for robotic competitions. The thesis was divided into the five chapters. The first and second chapters explained the different kind of robotics systems, and opportunities. The focus of the information was the mobile land robots, which was explained under the third chapter, …

Dynamics Of Falling Droplet Under Effects Of Electric Fields, Esmaiil Ghasemisahebi Jun 2019

Dynamics Of Falling Droplet Under Effects Of Electric Fields, Esmaiil Ghasemisahebi

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Physical properties and especially the size of drops are important parameters in many industrial and medical applications. High voltage electric field is one of the effective means to control the final size of drops during the fabrication process which could greatly influence the final size of the product. Therefore a detailed study of electric field effect on a liquid drop is very important. In this work deformation and fragmentation of a falling droplet under gravity and electric force have been studied numerically. The electric force is used as an effective external controlling mechanism to influence the deformation of a drop. …

Development Of A Sonically Powered Biodegradable Nanogenerator For Bone Regeneration, Avi S. Patel May 2019

Development Of A Sonically Powered Biodegradable Nanogenerator For Bone Regeneration, Avi S. Patel

University Scholar Projects

Background: Reconstruction of bone fractures and defects remains a big challenge in orthopedic surgery. While regenerative engineering has advanced the field greatly using a combination of biomaterial scaffolds and stem cells, one matter of difficulty is inducing osteogenesis in these cells. Recent works have shown electricity’s ability to promote osteogenesis in stem cell lines when seeded in bone scaffolds; however, typical electrical stimulators are either (a) externally housed and require overcomplex percutaneous wires be connected to the implanted scaffold or (b) implanted non-degradable devices which contain toxic batteries and require invasive removal surgeries.

Objective: Here, we establish a biodegradable, piezoelectric …

The Design Of An Innovative Automotive Suspension For Formula Sae Racing Applications, Jared Darius Apr 2019

The Design Of An Innovative Automotive Suspension For Formula Sae Racing Applications, Jared Darius

Senior Honors Theses

This thesis details an analytical approach to an innovative suspension system design for implementation to the Formula SAE collegiate competition. It focuses specifically on design relating to geometry, mathematical modeling, energy element relationships, and computer analysis and simulation to visualize system behavior. The bond graph approach is utilized for a quarter car model to facilitate understanding of the analytical process, then applied to a comparative analysis between two transverse half car models. The second half car model contains an additional transverse linkage with a third damper, and is compared against the baseline of the first half car model without the …

Civilian Acquirer For Fire Safety (Cafs), Antara Das, Marcus Allen, Clark Shaver Apr 2019

Civilian Acquirer For Fire Safety (Cafs), Antara Das, Marcus Allen, Clark Shaver

Posters

The department of Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) of Pittsburg State University has designed a prototype of an autonomous rover to help firefighters to find lives trapped in a building during an event of fire. The rover prototype has been named CAFS, which is the abbreviated form for Civilian Acquirer for Fire Safety. This device intends to produce the first ever autonomous system to locate, record, and transmit people’s location from within a building to a user outside of the building. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), on 2017, 72% of the fire that happened in the USA was …

Non-Marginal Decisions: A Novel Bayesian Multiple Testing Procedure, Noirrit Kiran Chandra, Sourabh Bhattacharya Jan 2019

Non-Marginal Decisions: A Novel Bayesian Multiple Testing Procedure, Noirrit Kiran Chandra, Sourabh Bhattacharya

Journal Articles

In this paper, we consider the problem of multiple testing where the hypotheses are dependent. In most of the existing literature, either Bayesian or non-Bayesian, the decision rules mainly focus on the validity of the test procedure rather than actually utilizing the dependency to increase efficiency. Moreover, the decisions regarding different hypotheses are marginal in the sense that they do not depend upon each other directly. However, in realistic situations, the hypotheses are usually dependent, and hence it is desirable that the decisions regarding the dependent hypotheses are taken jointly. In this article, we develop a novel Bayesian multiple testing …
