Study Of Accidental Sliding-Mode Control, April Mary Miller
Study Of Accidental Sliding-Mode Control, April Mary Miller
Theses and Dissertations
The objective of this paper is to examine the Quanser SRV-02 motor servo for the presence of an accidental sliding mode. The SRV-02 is used by undergraduate students to learn basic concepts in controls engineering and will display unexpected sliding mode behavior when its in the “out of box” configuration. To gain a strong background understanding in characteristics of sliding mode, a review of literature on sliding-mode control and sliding mode behavior is completed. Next, a theoretical analysis of the SRV-02 motor servo during the sliding mode is developed. An effort is made to find a Lyapunov function that proves …

Easy access and adjusting the vehicle interior configuration to a variety of situations and uses is the general desire for any vehicle user. To meet such desire an attempt has been made in this study to conceptualize a design to develop a new mechatronic product called re-configurable vehicle interior console mechanism to deploy a worksurface (DWS), which will provide flexible use of the vehicle’s interior of both partial and fully autonomous vehicles. This re-configurable vehicle interior console will deploy the DWS using a power …
The Design And Optimization Of Jet-In-Cross-Flow (Jicf) For Engineering Applications: Thermal Uniformity In Gas-Turbines And Cavitation Treatment In Hydro-Turbines, Tarek Mahmoud Mohammed Elgammal
The Design And Optimization Of Jet-In-Cross-Flow (Jicf) For Engineering Applications: Thermal Uniformity In Gas-Turbines And Cavitation Treatment In Hydro-Turbines, Tarek Mahmoud Mohammed Elgammal
Theses and Dissertations
Jet-in-cross-flow (JICF) is a well-known term in thermal flows field. Ranging from the normal phenomenon like the volcano ash and dust plumes to the designed film cooling and air fuel mixing for combustion, JICF is always studied to understand its nature at different conditions. Realizing the behavior of interacting flows and importance of many variables lead to the process of reiterating the shapes and running conditions for better outcomes or minimizing the losses. Summarizing the process under the name of optimization, two JICF applications are analyzed based on the principles of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, then some redesigns are proposed …
Analysis Of Dynamic Mode Decomposition, Archana Muniraju
Analysis Of Dynamic Mode Decomposition, Archana Muniraju
Theses and Dissertations
In this master thesis, a study was conducted on a method known as Dynamic mode decomposition(DMD), an equation-free technique which does not require to know the underlying governing equations of the complex data. As a result of massive datasets from various resources, like experiments, simulation, historical records, etc. has led to an increasing demand for an efficient method for data mining and analysis techniques. The main goals of data mining are the description and prediction. Description involves finding patterns in the data and prediction involves predicting the system dynamics. An important aspect when analyzing an algorithm is testing. In this …
Coding Strategies For Cochlear Implants Under Adverse Environments, Qudsia Tahmina
Coding Strategies For Cochlear Implants Under Adverse Environments, Qudsia Tahmina
Theses and Dissertations
Cochlear implants are electronic prosthetic devices that restores partial hearing in patients with severe to profound hearing loss. Although most coding strategies have significantly improved the perception of speech in quite listening conditions, there remains limitations on speech perception under adverse environments such as in background noise, reverberation and band-limited channels, and we propose strategies that improve the intelligibility of speech transmitted over the telephone networks, reverberated speech and speech in the presence of background noise. For telephone processed speech, we propose to examine the effects of adding low-frequency and high- frequency information to the band-limited telephone speech. Four listening …

Fuzzy Logic Controller For Parallel Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle, Sk. Khairul Hasan
Fuzzy Logic Controller For Parallel Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle, Sk. Khairul Hasan
Theses and Dissertations
Hybrid electric vehicles combine two methods for propelling a vehicle. In a parallel hybrid vehicle, the two propulsion methods work in parallel to meet the total power demand. Among different combination of power sources, internal combustion engine and electric motor drive system are the most popular because of their availability and controllability. Plug-in hybrid vehicle is the latest version in hybrid vehicle family. In plug-in hybrid vehicle, battery is directly recharged from the electrical power grid and it can be used for a long distance with higher efficiency. Most of the hybrid vehicles on the road are parallel in nature …
Discovery And Correction Of Bias In Precision Landmark Location, Colin Foster
Discovery And Correction Of Bias In Precision Landmark Location, Colin Foster
Theses and Dissertations
Precision Landmark Location (PLL) estimation is an integral part of 3D motion tracking. Circular landmark location estimation is one method of PLL. Current methods of estimation lead to systematic errors with a magnitude of up to .02 pixels. Estimation inaccuracies of this magnitude lead to unacceptable errors in depth measurement, the largest source of error. In the scope of this thesis, inadequacies in circular landmark location are uncovered and techniques to correct these errors are analyzed, tested, and demonstrated. Deviations in simulated images are seen to be reduced by a factor of three and the variances of real-world data were …
