Fossil-fueled steam-electric power plants have many outstanding advantages and are still one of the main power types in the world especially for non-European countries. The classic mathematic models are designed for traditional hydraulic governing steam turbine units. Single turbine and its control system models are used wildly for dynamic analysis in power system. Digital electro-hydraulic (DEH) control systems and coordinated control systems (CCS) are used in most of the modern large power boiler-turbine units. Stochastic control is an important area of research in engineering systems that undergo disturbances. Controlling individual states in such systems is critical. The present investigation is concerned with the application of the stochastic optimal control strategy developed by To (2010) and its implementation as well as providing computed results of linear and nonlinear systems under stationary and nonstationary random excitations. In the strategy the feedback matrix is designed based on the achievement of the objectives for individual states in the system through the application of the Lyapunov equation for the system. Analysis Of Power System Frequency Responses With Hydro Turbines Incorporating Load Shedding, Lin Gao

As shown in many recent works, the load-frequency behavior can be represented by system frequency response models especially for an islanding process. In this paper, a frequency response model incorporating an under-frequency load-shedding scheme is presented for islanding power system simulations. The model was applied for a realistic power system with hydro power generators. The hydro power generator model parameters were identified and similar responses were observed between the simulations and the accident records. The simulation results showed disadvantages of the primary frequency control systems of hydro power generators at the beginning of the load disturbances. The power system stability …

Studies Of Dynamic Crack Propagation And Crack Branching With Peridynamics, Youn Doh Ha Ph.D., Florin Bobaru Ph.D.

In this paper we discuss the peridynamic analysis of dynamic crack branching in brittle materials and show results of convergence studies under uniform grid refinement (m-convergence) and under decreasing the peridynamic horizon (δ-convergence). Comparisons with experimentally obtained values are made for the crack-tip propagation speed with three different peridynamic horizons.We also analyze the influence of the particular shape of themicro-modulus function and of different materials (Duran 50 glass and soda-lime glass) on the crack propagation behavior.
