The purchase and continued operation of the Mike Horse mine in the Heddleston district, by the American Smelting and Refining Company, gives the Blackfoot Valley a renewed promise of a prosperous future in its role as a mining district. In the past, large amounts of placer gold were recovered from the gulches of the area, however, because of the transportation facilities, only the upper portions of a few lodes were exploited by the early miners.
Rugose Corals Of The Madison Group, William R. Paine
Rugose Corals Of The Madison Group, William R. Paine
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
One of the best types of index fossils, and one which occurs most plentifully in the Madison group of formations in Montana, and yet, one which has been little studied, is the group of rugose, or cup, corals. Perhaps this group of fossils has not been studied in detail because their distinguishing characteristics are mainly internal, and laboratory preparation in the form of thin section or polished surfaces is necessary to bring out these characteristics.
Kibbey Sandstone In Montana, Glen Shean

Upper Cretaceous Sediment In Montana, Frank J. Frankovich
Upper Cretaceous Sediment In Montana, Frank J. Frankovich
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Cretaceous sediments in Montana record events during a period of unusual geologic interest. After a long period of extensive submergence of the area during Jurassic time, came a period of varying continental and marine deposition with consequent variations in the types of sediments laid down. A study of these variations, their extent, and their cause has been the primary object of this thesis.
Occurrence Of Native Copper Near Jefferson City, Montana, Terence G. Kirkland
Occurrence Of Native Copper Near Jefferson City, Montana, Terence G. Kirkland
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Sometime prior to 1870, a group of prospectors made what was believed to be a "rich strike' on one of the tributaries of Prickly Pear Creek in Jefferson County, Montana. Instead of striking it rich, they had uncovered a native copper deposit, worthless to them because of its limited extent and remote location, but now of much interest to the geologist, and to the mining engineer because of its possible commercial value.
Electro-Deposition Of Iron From A Chloride Bath, Charles W. Noon
Electro-Deposition Of Iron From A Chloride Bath, Charles W. Noon
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Iron was electro-deposited from a ferrous chloride bath. Studies were made of deposits formed when current density was varied, and finally when both current density and temperature were changed. An attempt was made to lay the ground work for a long range study of the chloride bath, and to determine the most simple conditions possible for obtaining a smooth, even, and thick deposit.

The region is on the Pacific Ocean side of the Rocky Mountains. Three major rivers, the Clark Fork, the Flathead, and the Kootenai drain this area into the Columbia River.
The Problem Of The Tensleep Sandstone, George D. Mccarthy
The Problem Of The Tensleep Sandstone, George D. Mccarthy
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Sandstone is probably one of the most important groups of rocks in existence today. The economic importance of so insignificant a thing as a mass of sand grains grows with the true reality of the situation. By increasing our knowledge of grains of sand, or particles of sandstone in all their ramifications, it would undoubtedly reflect upon our everyday life by increasing commercial possibilities of an undeveloped natural resource of Montana.

An Investigation Of Various Properties Of The 60co-40cr Alloy, Roger David Moeller
An Investigation Of Various Properties Of The 60co-40cr Alloy, Roger David Moeller
Masters Theses
"The binary alloys of Co-Cr have had a few practical applications in our modern economy due to their high cost. The only extensive field of application has been developed in recent years in the manufacture of high temperature alloys for such equipment as gas turbines, jet engines, and turbo-superchargers. The use of these materials has been limited, due to their high cost, to small parts such as rotor blades in gas turbines. To reduce cost and to add desirable or eliminate undesirable properties, the binary alloys have, from the beginning, been modified with varying amounts of other metals. The modified …
Ceramic Possibilities Of Some Missouri Clays And Shales, Leonard Nathanael Larson
Ceramic Possibilities Of Some Missouri Clays And Shales, Leonard Nathanael Larson
Masters Theses
"Although many of the shales and clays of Missouri have in the past been, or are presently being used for the manufacture of heavy clay products such as face brick, common brick, sewer pipe, and tile, there is in these post-war years a significant shortage of these products within the state and country. Especially in the northwestern part of Missouri is there a distinct shortage, as only one structural clay plant is known to be operating in that area. The St. Louis and Southeastern Missouri districts are better prepared to meet construction demands, with several structural clay plants operating at …
The Solubility Of Copper In High-Iron And Low-Iron Slags, Charles Burroughs Gill
The Solubility Of Copper In High-Iron And Low-Iron Slags, Charles Burroughs Gill
Masters Theses
"A thesis giving the details of construction of a rotating induction furnace and its use to experimentally determine the amounts of copper absorbed in high-iron and low-iron slags at various temperatures. A rotating induction furnace is advantageous for slag study in that the slag is contained in a molten pure metal cup and does not come in contact with any refractory, which would be attacked by the slag and contaminate it. The molten pure metal cup is formed by melting the pure metal in a refractory crucible and spinning this inside an induction coil. The induction coil supplies heat for …
A Study Of Certain Properties Of A Cobalt-Chromium-Manganese Alloy For High Temperature Service, Robert Lewis Ray
A Study Of Certain Properties Of A Cobalt-Chromium-Manganese Alloy For High Temperature Service, Robert Lewis Ray
Masters Theses
"The vast amount of attention that has been given to the development of high-temperature service alloys since about 1940 has resulted in the production of numerous compositions for many elevated temperature applications. Particularly in the aircraft industry, with the jet engine, and the power industry, with the gas turbine, have these applications been most demanding. War research has developed a large number of high-temperature service alloys, many of which are in use today, and the alloy ingredients vary widely...it may be readily be seen that there is no one alloy, or one system of alloys which has been developed that …
Some Preliminary Work On Metaphosphates In Ceramics, John Frederick Burst
Some Preliminary Work On Metaphosphates In Ceramics, John Frederick Burst
Masters Theses
"For a good many years the accepted method of cementing ceramic joints was with a mixture of fire clay grog and a plastic clay binder. This did not prove too satisfactory for several reasons. Usually when enough plastic clay was added to give good workability the vitrification was lowered to such an extent that either excessive shrinkage or excessive bloating occurred, depending upon the extent to which the vitrification point was exceeded...In order to obtain a cement with high strength throughout a long firing range the manufacturers have turned to the addition of various organic binders and inorganic fluxes. Most …

Beneficiation Of A Zinc Rich Oxidized Ore From Nuevo LéOn, MéXico, Jorge Casas Nieto
Masters Theses
"Rich zinc ores are relatively rare now in this country but are still abundant in countries like México, that have not yet developed all their mineral potentialities. In almost all Mexican zinc districts there has been reported sporadic production of oxidized ores, although until now no specially designed plants have been built for the beneficiation of such ores. Generally the zinc carbonate and zinc silicate ores are hand picked and shipped to this country for beneficiation. The Mexican production of zinc ores has never been steady, because of economic factors such as bad transportation systems and lack of market for …
