The Effect Of The Presence Of Certain Base Metals On The Ability Of Amalgams To Catch Gold And Silver, Ray Gould Knickerbocker Jan 1913

The Effect Of The Presence Of Certain Base Metals On The Ability Of Amalgams To Catch Gold And Silver, Ray Gould Knickerbocker

Bachelors Theses

"As a general proposition, the conditions that favor successful amalgamation, and the factors that work against the success of the operation are reasonably well known. We know that if mercury contains certain impurities it will not pick up gold and silver efficiently. We know that if the gold and silver are not in proper condition the mercury will not work as it should. We also know what some of these impurities are, and have some idea as to what condition the gold and silver should be in, but the exact data on these conditions and their effects are lacking. The …

The Effect Of Insoluble Sulphates On The Volumetric Determination Of Lead, Mervin Joe Kelly, Ralph Knappenberger Jan 1913

The Effect Of Insoluble Sulphates On The Volumetric Determination Of Lead, Mervin Joe Kelly, Ralph Knappenberger

Bachelors Theses

"It has been pointed out that Alexander's Molybdate Method for lead gives inconsistently varying results when calcium is present in the ore...It was to clear up this apparent contradiction and to find the true effect of the presence of calcium on the titration in the molybdate method, that this investigation was started"--Introduction, page 1.

The Nature Of The Reactions Occurring In The Distillation Of Zinc From Its Ores And The Effect On The Speed Of These Reactions Due To Certain Variables, Robert Glenn Sickly, Charles Yancey Clayton Jan 1913

The Nature Of The Reactions Occurring In The Distillation Of Zinc From Its Ores And The Effect On The Speed Of These Reactions Due To Certain Variables, Robert Glenn Sickly, Charles Yancey Clayton

Bachelors Theses

"The reactions that occur in the metallurgy of zinc are in general well known as to the end results obtained. The zinc smelter desires a maximum recovery in a minimum time. There are certain factors that govern the fulfillment of this desire. The most important of these are TEMPERATURE, TIME, KIND OF REDUCTION MATERIAL, and THE NATURE OF THE ORE. There is much data available as to the temperatures at which these reactions go on and also there is obtainable some information as to the speed with which these reactions progress, particularly as to the length of time required for …

A Series Of Tests On The Condensation Of Zinc Vapor To Metallic Zinc, Frank W. Cody, John W. Greene Jan 1913

A Series Of Tests On The Condensation Of Zinc Vapor To Metallic Zinc, Frank W. Cody, John W. Greene

Bachelors Theses

"The purpose of this Thesis is to try to show the effect which certain variables, which are always present in practice, have upon the condensation of Zinc Vapors to Metallic Zinc. That these variables can and do play an important part in the Zinc Smelting Industry can be shown from the fact that all of the zinc obtained at the present time is won from ores by reducing the oxide of zinc to metallic zinc by means of carbon. This operation necessarily takes place at a temperature above the boiling point of zinc. This means that the zinc immediately on …
