The electrochemical behaviors of platinum electrode were studied by cyclic voltammetry in 1mol/L sulfuric acid solution and 1mol/L sulfuric acid solution contained phenol. The adsorption characteristics of phenol and the intermediat on electrode surface have been discussed. The reactive reversibility and oxidation mechanism of phenol on electrode process have been investigated.The potential of characteristic adsorption was suggested. The various products woud be formed when the electrode potential was greater than the one of characteristic adsorption.

Preparation And Characterization Of Y-Type Carbon Nanotubes By Using Anodized Alumina Oxide (Aao) Template, Jing Zhang, Quan-Yong Gao, Yong Yang

In this work, potential_modulation method was used in two_step anodization process to make an AAO template with Y_type nanochannels. Then Y_type carbon nanotubes with controlled length and branch angle were prepared in the template based on chemical vapor decomposion (CVD) method with Co particles as catalyst and C2H2 as carbon source. The Y_type nanotube branches exhibit the angle distribution ranging from 20° to 120°. The results demonstrated that the oxidation potential should be responsible for the angles and length of the branches. Short pulse and high oxidation potential will result in the short and dense nanotube branches.

Application Of Hydrogen-Storage Alloy Electrode In Electrochemical Reduction Of Glucose, Hui Chen, You-Gen Tang, Zheng Tang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Electrolysis of glucose was performed at constant potential using hydrogen_storage alloy as catalytic reduction electrode. It was found that the superficial treatment and activation of hydrogen_storage alloy powder had obvious effects on improving the current efficiency of sorbitol. Under the optimums, current efficiency of sorbitol by electrolyzing glucose was over 94%. The yield of sorbitol was over 80%, the lifespan of electrode was tested and analyzed, the ways of regeneration were discussed.

The characteristics of current fluctuations of A3 carbon steel in NaNO2_NaCl solutions were studied with potentiostatic and potentiodynamic polarization methods. The steel remained stable passivation in 0.1 mol/L NaNO2 solution without Cl-. After NaCl was added in to the solution, current fluctuations with a characteristic of quick increase and slow decrease occurred, indicating quick dissolution and slow re_passivation of the metastable pits. The metastable pitting may cause accumulated corrosion damage around certain area and result in observable pits. The optimal composition of catalyst layer in a PEMFC electrode was studied through orthogonal method. It was showed that the performance of hydrophilic electrodes, in which there is no PTFE in the catalyst layer, were more favorable than that of hydrophobic electrodes. According to this condition, the power density of PEMFC attained 0.37 w·cm-2 when the Nafion loading was 1.4 mg·cm-2, and the Pt loading was 0.4 mg·cm-2 in the catalyst layer, using H2 as fuel and air as oxidant both at atmospheric pressure. Carbon nanotube_supported_platinum (Pt/CNTs) and carbon_supported_platinum (Pt/C) catalysts were synthesized by in_situ chemical reduction. They were analyzed using TEM and XRD, then made into electrodes to be part of assemable PEMFC for the performence tests. The resulted show that Pt clusters in both catalysts are of small particle size (about 4nm), and Pt/CNTs exhibits a higher catalytic activity than Pt/C.

The gases of polymer lithium_ion battery(PLI) generated under different voltages during the first charging process were examined by means of gas chromatography (GC), and the mechanism of the gas generation was discussed. The electrolyte used in batteries was 1 mol/L LiPF6_EC~DMC~EMC=1∶1∶1(in volume). The results showed that when the charging voltage is less than 2.5 V, the main component of generated gases are H2 and CO2, and when the charging voltage is 2.5 V, EC begins to decompose. Electrochemical oxidation of phenol was carried out by the Dimensionally Stable Anodes (DSA) electrode, which has been discarded as waste by alkali chloride factory. The result indicates that a good phenol removal can be obtained under certain phenol concentration by the DSA electrode. The key factor in effecting phenol removal of electrochemical oxidation is applied current density, the following factors are pH, electrolyte concentration and phenol concentration. After experiments, the optimal test conditions are 30 mA/cm2, pH 10, electrolyte concentration 10 mg/L, phenol concentration 10 mg/L.67% CODcr removal and 90% absorbance removal are gained by electrochemical oxidation for 2 hours.

A Mannich Base derivative (BMMCH), containing two morpholinum moieties and one cyclohexylamnonium moiety, was synthesized through aminomethy1 reaction. Its configuration was verified by IR and 1H_NMR. Its volatile rustproofing effect was appraised by volatile rustproofing sieve test and vapor inhabitability test. The result shows that BMMCH has good protection effect for carbon steel. BMMCH has lower volatility compared with dicyclohexylamnonium nitrite (DICHAN) via closed space volatile weight_loss test. The inhibition mechanism was studied by potentiodynamic polarization electrochemistry technique in ASTM simulated atmospheric water. A PVD process_cathodic arc plasma ion plating was used to deposit Ni_Al films on Inconel 600 superalloy. The oxidation behaviors of PVD Ni_Al coating and the thermal sprayed CoCrAlY coatings were revealed and compared by performing cyclic thermal oxidation test at 1 100 ℃ to evaluate its feasibility. In this paper,the cyclic voltammetric and spectroelectrochemical behaviors of μ _oxamido Copper(Ⅱ) Binuclear Complex (deCu) in PBS were studied.Cyclic voltammograms of this complex in PBS(pH=9)exhibited two reductive peaks( E pc1 =-0.25 V, E pc2 =-0.50 V)at hanging mercury drop electrode(HMDE),peaks at -0.50 V and -0.25 V corresponded to the reduction of ligand and copper(Ⅱ)_complex, respectively.The spectroelectrochimical experiments showed that there was a new absorption band at 440 nm,and the absorption peaks at 270 nm,280 nm red shifted to 300 nm,310 nm under potential of -0.75 V.It was meant that the Cu(Ⅱ) turned into low valent copper,simultaneously,a new large coupling system …

The K 2FeO 4 used for new positive electrode materials was prepared. The primary batteries were used in different concentration of electrolyte and different currents. In 9 mol/L KOH , the capacity was the best. The higher the concentration of electrolyte, the lower the electric potential was. When the batteries discharged in 0.4 C , the capacity reached 521.3 mAh/g. By XRD, we gave the reasonable explanations for the discharge products of K 2FeO 4. Possible mechanism of discharge is discussed.

Multi_layer heat laminated polymer lithium ion battery was made, the effect of temperature of cathode laminating on battry performance was also investigated. It was discovered that suitable temperature of cathode laminating is critical to battery performance and is a key parameter to manufacture process control of polymer lithium ion battery.

The oxygen electroreduction on the MnO 2 electrode was investigated by analysis of the polarzation properties of oxygen reduciton and its dependence on MnO 2 discharge state,in combination with the characterization of discharge intermediate and the kinetic parameters of the oxygen reduction.Based on the experimental observation and mechanistic analysis,it was suggested that the reduction of oxygen was closely related to the discharge behaviors of MnO 2 .When MnO 2 was electrochimically reduced to MnOOH,it was immediately oxidized by oxygen molecules. The nickel_based complex oxide LiaNi0.78Co0.02O2 cathode materials for lithium_ion rechargeable batteries was synthesized by the improved solid_state reaction method with LiOH·H2O, ball_like Cd_doped Ni(OH)2 and Co2O3 as raw materials. The analysis ICP_AES proved that the as_prepared compounds were near the stoichiometric form. The XRD, SEM and electrochemical characteristics testing were also carried out. The results showed that the complex cathode material LiaNi0.78Co0.2Cd0.02O2 has layered structure, homogeneous surface distributions,uniform particles with good crystal morphology as well as stable electrochemical performances. Oxidation Behavior Of Zr-Cu-Al-Ni Amorphous Alloys In Air At 300~500 ℃, H. Hsieh H., Kai W., G. Neih T., Kawamura Y.

The oxidation behavior of the Zr_based bulk amorphous alloy (BMG; Zr_30Cu_10Al_5Ni in at.%) was studied in dry air over the temperature range 300~500 ℃. The kinetic results indicated that the amorphous alloy oxidized linearly at 300 ℃,while the parabolic oxidation was observed at 350~425 ℃, and the oxidation behavior at 500 ℃ was irregular and complicated. In general, the scales formed on the surface of the amorphous alloy were temperature_dependent, consisting of tetragonal_ZrO2 at 300 ℃, and of mostly tetragonal_ZrO2 as well as minor amounts of monoclinic_ZrO2 and CuO at T≥350 ℃.

Corrosion Prediction Of Carbon Steel In Concentrated Lithium Bromide Solutions At High Temperature Using Bp Neural Network, Nai-Bao Huang, Cheng-Hao Liang

Neutral network model has been developed for the computation of corrosion rate of carbon steel in LiBr solutions.The results indicate that the model is capable of reproducing the effects of changes in alkalinity,temperatures,LiBr and Na2MoO4 concentrations on the rates of general corrsion and good agreement between calculated and experimental corrosion rate is obtained.The model can be used to satisfactorily predict the corrosion rate of carbon steel in different concentrations of LiBr solutions containing different inhibitors at different temperatures.It also provides a novel method for corrosion monitoring of metals used in LiBr absorption chiller.

The conductivities of this system were measured under various composition and various salt concentrations at temperature range of 20~-50 ℃. The optimum composition of this system was selected. The synthesis,characterization and electrochemical property of K2FeO4 for positive materal of lithium ion battery were studied. K2FeO4 with low purity was gained through the reaction of KCIO and Fe(NO3)3 in KOH solution and after recrystalization the purity of K2FeO4 reached 97%~98%. The methods of XRD and FTIR were used to measure the structure of K2FeO4 and its initial discharge performance was tested.

The layered LiNi0.8Co0.2O2 compound, which has been of great interest for lithium ion batteries, was prepared at low temperatures by calcining a complex precursor at different temperatures. The physical properties of the synthesized cathode materials were discussed in the light of structural (XRD). The charge and discharge cycling of the cells containing the synthesized oxide as the positive electrode in conjunction with lithium metals and employing a non_aqueous electrolyte showed that LiNi0.8Co0.2O2 treated at 900 ℃ exhibited excellent performances. The electron spin resonance(ESR) and 7Li_NMR magnetic resonance (7Li_NMR) studies on lithium intercalation into carbons were reviewed based on recently published papers, including those by the authors of this review. Two kinds of electronic spins were found in ESR studies. One corresponds to the charge carrier electrons and is called the Pauli spin. From the ESR intensity of Pauli spins, the curve of the density of electronic states can be deduced for the carbon material studied and, in turn, the contribution of the band model mechanism to the lithium intercalation can be calculated for the given carbon sample. Simultaneous frequency and current responses during potential cycling of Pt electrode were measured in 0.1 mol·L-1 H2SO4 solution by using EQCM.Quantitative analysis of the mass change revealed that the increase of mass in the hydrogen and double_layer regions in a positive_going potential scan was due to water adsorption on the Pt electrode,further calculation indicated that water molecules adsorbed on Pt electrode in the double_layer regions through a low discharge quomodo .The EQCM studies provided quantitative results of surface mass variation during water adsorption and oxidation,and have thrown new light in elucidating the structure of double_layer between electrode and solution.

The electropolymerization of biphenyl at overcharged positive electrode was investigated for overcharge protection of Li_ion batteries. Biphenyl in electrolyte as an additive can electrochemically polymerize at 4.5~4.75 V(vs. Li/Li+) to form a layer of conductive film on cathode surface. The surface film increases the internal resistance and the gases released during the electropolymerization also increases the internal pressure of the batteries, which therefore enhance the sensitivities of the electrical disconnecting devices. The composite material were prepared by sub_micro SnCux, particles depositing on the surface of Carbonaceous Mesophase Spherules(CMS).Electrochemical cycling tests showed that coulombic efficiency of the electrodes prepared by the composite materials was near 100 % after second cycle and the capacity dropped less than 5% after the 30th cycle, versus 390 mAhg-1 special capacity, improving 26 % special capacity of pure CMS electrode. Cadmium p_toluenesulfonate was synthesized and tested electrochemically for the first time. This salt can lose all the hydrated water easily and the dehydrated salt do not deliquesce in the air.Hence,the cadmium p_toluenesulfonate is suitable for the electrochemical studies in organic solvents.When the Cd(Ⅱ) reduced on Pt electrode in Cd(pCH3C6H4SO3)2+TBAP+DMSO, underpotential deposition of cadmium occurred at first, and then cadmium deposited. 4_Methyl_7_hydroxylcoumarin and 3_aminocoumarin coordinate with Cd(Ⅱ) respectively, as a result the reductive potentials of Cd(Ⅱ) moved to the negative direction.

The Electrochemical Performance Studies On Novel Lifepo_4 Cathode Materials For Li_Ion Batteries, Zhi-Cong Shi, Chen Li, Yong Yang

The cathode materials of LiFePO4 and LiFePO4 coated with carbon were synthesized by means of solid state reaction and ballmilling. The samples were characterized by X_ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, gas_phase element analysis and titration analysis methods. Electrochemical tests of two kinds of materials showed that both of them exhibit a 3.4V discharge voltage plateau, however,the coated samples demonstrated the improved performance in terms of discharge capacity and cyclic stability.

Study Of Electrochemical Lithium Intercalation Performance Of Ni_(0.67)Mg_(0.33)O, Zhen-Cai Huang, Mao-Hui Chen, Guo-Tao Wu, Jin-Kua You, Zu-Geng Lin

In the present work, Ni0.67Mg0.33O and NiO were produced by sol_gel method, and characterized by XRD, a rietveld refinement and the discharge/charge test.It was found that the magnesium_doping restrained the reduction of Ni and decreased the reversible capacity for the sample of Ni0.67Mg0.33O. But the formation of the solid solution after the magnesium_doping facilitated the high dispersion of NiO, and accordingly improved the electrochemical performance.
