Security Of Vehicular Platooning, Soodeh Dadras

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Platooning concept involves a group of vehicles acting as a single unit through coordination of movements. While Platooning as an evolving trend in mobility and transportation diminishes the individual and manual driving concerns, it creates new risks. New technologies and passenger’s safety and security further complicate matters and make platooning attractive target for the malicious minds. To improve the security of the vehicular platooning, threats and their potential impacts on vehicular platooning should be identified to protect the system against security risks. Furthermore, algorithms should be proposed to detect intrusions and mitigate the effects in case of attack. This dissertation …

The development of automated vehicles has come more into the focus of researchers due to progress in areas of potential benefit, such as increasing road safety and fuel efficiency and reducing time road travel by decreasing traffic congestion and, thus, minimizing workload on the driver. For a platoon (which is a method of grouping vehicles that helps increase the capacity of roads by managing the distance between vehicles by using electrical and mechanical coupling) of such vehicles, the inter-vehicular distance is one of the most important facets to be taken into consideration. As in automated highway systems (AHS) (AHS is …

Cognitive Vehicle Platooning In The Era Of Automated Electric Transportation, Pooja Kavathekar May 2013

Cognitive Vehicle Platooning In The Era Of Automated Electric Transportation, Pooja Kavathekar

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This research focuses on a concept called “cognitive vehicle platooning.” A group of vehicles, either of the same type or different, following one another at highway speeds, coupled together by wireless communication is vehicle platooning. With this technology, passengers can comfortably enjoy their rides without having to drive their cars, as the cars will drive themselves. This automatic car driving is an advanced form of cruise control. These cars will run on dedicated lanes on highways. The leader of the platoon communicates wirelessly to its followers, its position, velocity, and acceleration information. Using this data, the followers will have a …
