Global Positioning System, Vladimir Villalba Dec 2010

Global Positioning System, Vladimir Villalba

Electrical Engineering

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation network consisting of 24 satellites in orbit around the Earth. This satellite system provides the accurate position of an individual in all weather conditions at all times around the world. Individuals can use GPS receivers to locate where they are, pinpoint where they want to go with any form of transportation.

The senior project embarks in a path to understand the workings of the GPS satellite system. To accomplish this task, the concepts learned in Electrical Engineering will be implemented. This report encompasses the design process and steps taken in prototyping a …

Ofdm Simulation In Matlab, Paul Guanming Lin Jun 2010

Ofdm Simulation In Matlab, Paul Guanming Lin

Electrical Engineering

The objective of this project is to demonstrate the concept and feasibility of an OFDM system, and investigate how its performance is changed by varying some of its major parameters. This objective is met by developing a MATLAB program to simulate a basic OFDM system. From the process of this development, the mechanism of an OFDM system can be studied; and with a completed MATLAB program, the characteristics of an OFDM system can be explored.

Solar Panel Tracker, Andrew Hsing Jun 2010

Solar Panel Tracker, Andrew Hsing

Electrical Engineering

This project will be a design and implementation of a polar single axis solar panel tracker. It will have a fixed vertical axis and an adjustable horizontal motor controlled axis. This setup is similar to an office swivel chair. The tracker will actively track the sun and change its position accordingly to maximize the energy output. To prevent wasting power by running the motor continuously, the tracker will correct it's position after 2 to 3 degrees of misalignment. The sensors will compare the light intensities of each side and move the panels until the tracker detects equal light on both …

Sign Language Glove, Nicholas Born Jun 2010

Sign Language Glove, Nicholas Born

Electrical Engineering

Between 500,000 and 2 million Americans use American Sign Language (ASL) as their primary language. As such, a device capable of translating those movements into text would be useful in many areas, such as teaching and the entertainment industry.

The goal of this project was to show that the creation of a glove device that takes in sign language letters, interprets them into the desired characters, and can input those characters into a computer is feasible. I chose to work on this project for many different reasons. One reason is many members of my family know sign language and use …
