Evaluating The Potential Of Drone Swarms In Nonverbal Hri Communication, Kasper Grispino, Damian Lyons, Truong-Huy Nguyen
Evaluating The Potential Of Drone Swarms In Nonverbal Hri Communication, Kasper Grispino, Damian Lyons, Truong-Huy Nguyen
Faculty Publications
Human-to-human communications are enriched with affects and emotions, conveyed, and perceived through both verbal and nonverbal communication. It is our thesis that drone swarms can be used to communicate information enriched with effects via nonverbal channels: guiding, generally interacting with, or warning a human audience via their pattern of motions or behavior. And furthermore that this approach has unique advantages such as flexibility and mobility over other forms of user interface. In this paper, we present a user study to understand how human participants perceived and interpreted swarm behaviors of micro-drone Crazyflie quadcopters flying three different flight formations to bridge …
Multirobot Confidence And Behavior Modeling: An Evaluation Of Telerobotic Performance And Efficiency, Nathan Lucas
Multirobot Confidence And Behavior Modeling: An Evaluation Of Telerobotic Performance And Efficiency, Nathan Lucas
Wayne State University Dissertations
There is considerable interest in multirobot systems capable of performing spatially distributed, hazardous, and complex tasks as a team. There is also growing interest in manned-unmanned teams leveraging the unique abilities of humans and automated machines working alongside each other. The limitations of human perception and cognition affect the ability of operators to integrate information from multiple mobile robots, switch between their spatial frames of reference, and divide attention among many sensory inputs and command outputs. Automation is necessary to help the operator manage increasing demands as the number of robots scales up. However, more automation does not necessarily equate …

Modeling The Consumer Acceptance Of Retail Service Robots, So Young Song
Modeling The Consumer Acceptance Of Retail Service Robots, So Young Song
Doctoral Dissertations
This study uses the Computers Are Social Actors (CASA) and domestication theories as the underlying framework of an acceptance model of retail service robots (RSRs). The model illustrates the relationships among facilitators, attitudes toward Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), anxiety toward robots, anticipated service quality, and the acceptance of RSRs. Specifically, the researcher investigates the extent to which the facilitators of usefulness, social capability, the appearance of RSRs, and the attitudes toward HRI affect acceptance and increase the anticipation of service quality. The researcher also tests the inhibiting role of pre-existing anxiety toward robots on the relationship between these facilitators and attitudes …
