Stock Price Trend Prediction Using Emotion Analysis Of Financial Headlines With Distilled Llm Model, Rithesh H. Bhat

Computer Science and Engineering Theses

Capturing the volatility of stock prices helps individual traders, stock analysts, and institutions alike increase their returns in the stock market. Financial news headlines have been shown to have a significant effect on stock price mobility. Lately, many financial portals have restricted web scraping of stock prices and other related financial data of companies from their websites. In this study we demonstrate that emotion analysis of financial news headlines alone can be sufficient in predicting stock price movement, even in the absence of any financial data. We propose an approach that eliminates the need for web scraping of financial data. …

Leveraging Programmable Switches To Enhance The Performance Of Networks: Active And Passive Deployments, Elie Kfoury Jul 2023

Leveraging Programmable Switches To Enhance The Performance Of Networks: Active And Passive Deployments, Elie Kfoury

Theses and Dissertations

The performance of networks today is drastically affected by: 1) switches equipped with large buffers, referred to as “bloated buffers”: due to the lack of programmability and traffic visibility in legacy switches, operators nowadays configure large buffers statically without considering the characteristics or dynamics of flows. Such buffers increase the delays on packets, causing the Quality of Service (QoS) of networked applications (e.g., voice over IP, web browsing) to degrade; 2) switches forwarding packets on a best-effort basis: traffic crossing a switch is heterogeneous in many ways. Mixing such traffic in a single queue without any QoS measures can drastically …

Ai Applications On Planetary Rovers, Alexis David Pascual Mar 2023

Ai Applications On Planetary Rovers, Alexis David Pascual

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The rise in the number of robotic missions to space is paving the way for the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the autonomy and augmentation of rover operations. For one, more rovers mean more images, and more images mean more data bandwidth required for downlinking as well as more mental bandwidth for analyzing the images. On the other hand, light-weight, low-powered microrover platforms are being developed to accommodate the drive for planetary exploration. As a result of the mass and power constraints, these microrover platforms will not carry typical navigational instruments like a stereocamera or a laser …

Analysis And Usage Of Natural Language Features In Success Prediction Of Legislative Testimonies, Marine Cossoul Mar 2023

Analysis And Usage Of Natural Language Features In Success Prediction Of Legislative Testimonies, Marine Cossoul

Master's Theses

Committee meetings are a fundamental part of the legislative process in which
constituents, lobbyists, and legislators alike can speak on proposed bills at the

without a political background at an inherent disadvantage when engaging with
the legislative process. The work done in this thesis aims to explore the extent to
which the language and phraseology of a general public testimony can influence a
vote, and examine how this information can be used to promote civic …

Hard-Hearted Scrolls: A Noninvasive Method For Reading The Herculaneum Papyri, Stephen Parsons

Theses and Dissertations--Computer Science

The Herculaneum scrolls were buried and carbonized by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and represent the only classical library discovered in situ. Charred by the heat of the eruption, the scrolls are extremely fragile. Since their discovery two centuries ago, some scrolls have been physically opened, leading to some textual recovery but also widespread damage. Many other scrolls remain in rolled form, with unknown contents. More recently, various noninvasive methods have been attempted to reveal the hidden contents of these scrolls using advanced imaging. Unfortunately, their complex internal structure and lack of clear ink contrast has prevented …
