Usability is a significant factor in the creation of quality software products which is an important focus of the software engineering syllabus. Usability is also a significant factor in the study of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Despite the connection, software quality and the rigours of the software engineering discipline are not used in the teaching of HCI and visa versa. Consequently, students undertaking software engineering courses are not fully exposed to usability issues and HCI students often miss out on the disciplines of software engineering.
