The Music Bluetooth Controller: An Intersection Between Technology And Music, Lydia Wu

Senior Honors Theses

The modern musician faces a new challenge: how can technology be used to enhance a performance? This thesis documents the development of a Bluetooth remote controller that will aid today’s performing musicians by interacting with a digital display (e.g., an iPad) to flip musical score pages remotely. At its core, while mimicking a Bluetooth pedal (the current industry standard), this device attaches to the musician’s hand. In its pilot stages, the device has been referred to “MBC” (Music Bluetooth Controller).

Live Media Production: Multicast Optimization And Visibility For Clos Fabric In Media Data Centers, Ammar Latif

Dissertations

Media production data centers are undergoing a major architectural shift to introduce digitization concepts to media creation and media processing workflows. Content companies such as NBC Universal, CBS/Viacom and Disney are modernizing their workflows to take advantage of the flexibility of IP and virtualization.

In these new environments, multicast is utilized to provide point-to-multi-point communications. In order to build point-to-multi-point trees, Multicast has an established set of control protocols such as IGMP and PIM. The existing multicast protocols do not optimize multicast tree formation for maximizing network throughput which lead to decreased fabric utilization and decreased total number of admitted …

Parameters Optimization For Variable Speed And Pitch Controller Of Wind Turbine Based On Bladed, Gao Feng, Wang Wei, Xinmei Ling

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Due to nonlinearity and time-varying parameters of wind power system, its controller parameters are hard to be calculated and tuned during the process of design and optimization. The linear model which is suitable for parameters tuning was built through model linearization of Bladed and model reducing-order algorithm. The PI parameter was tuned with the IM-PSO (Immune Memory Particle Swarm Optimization). Moreover, the gain coefficient of optimal torque control and the gain divisor of adaptive PI pitch control conducted optimizing calculation based on the identification parameters of Bladed. A set of optimization method for variable speed and pitch controller …

Impact Of Distributed Generator Controllers On The Coordination Of Overcurrent Relays In Microgrid, Niraj Kumar Choudhary, Soumya Ranjan Mohanty, Ravindra Kumar Singh Jan 2017

Impact Of Distributed Generator Controllers On The Coordination Of Overcurrent Relays In Microgrid, Niraj Kumar Choudhary, Soumya Ranjan Mohanty, Ravindra Kumar Singh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In the presence of distributed generators (DGs) the fault current sensed by relay in the forward direction is larger than that in the reverse direction. Thus, it is required to have different relay settings for both forward and reverse directions. This paper investigates the impact of DG controller operating modes on the coordination of conventional and dual setting overcurrent relays (OCRs). The different DG control modes are voltage control mode (VCM) and current control mode (CCM). A comparative study of protection coordination is presented in both the operating modes of the DG. This scheme is tested on a 3-bus meshed …

In traditional networks, switches and routers are very expensive, complex, and inflexible because forwarding and handling of packets are in the same device. However, Software Defined Networking (SDN) makes networks design more flexible, cheaper, and programmable because it separates the control plane from the data plane. SDN gives administrators of networks more flexibility to handle the whole network by using one device which is the controller. Unfortunately, SDN faces a lot of security problems that may severely affect the network operations if not properly addressed. Threat vectors may target main components of SDN such as the control plane, the data …

In-Field Fuel Use And Load States Of Agricultural Field Machinery, Santosh Pitla, Joe D. Luck, Jared Werner, Nannan Lin, Scott A. Shearer Jan 2016

In-Field Fuel Use And Load States Of Agricultural Field Machinery, Santosh Pitla, Joe D. Luck, Jared Werner, Nannan Lin, Scott A. Shearer

Department of Biological Systems Engineering: Papers and Publications

The ability to define in-field tractor load states offers the potential to better specify and characterize fuel consumption rate for various field operations. For the same field operation, the tractor experiences diverse load demands and corresponding fuel use rates as it maneuvers through straight passes, turns, suspended operation for adjustments, repair and maintenance, and biomass or other material transfer operations. It is challenging to determine the actual fuel rate and load states of agricultural machinery using force prediction models, and hence, some form of in-field data acquisition capability is required. Controller Area Networks (CAN) available on the current model tractors …

Control In Networked Systems With Fuzzy Logic, Akhan Akbulut, Oğuzhan Öztaş

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recently, the development of control systems based on network-based architecture is getting very high attention. Because of its fast data communication, network-based control is in high demand. However, there are some disadvantages, such as delays, data packet dropouts, and communication constraints. Network-based control systems are getting attention in the development of this architecture because of these disadvantages. Optimization of the system is supplied to improve the existing structure. The optimization is categorized into 2 main structures: software optimization and hardware optimization. The structure of the overall system is designed with these optimization strategies. A hierarchical and communicational structure has emerged …

Techniques For Detection Of Malicious Packet Drops In Networks, Vikram R. Desai Jan 2012

Techniques For Detection Of Malicious Packet Drops In Networks, Vikram R. Desai

Masters Theses 1911 - February 2014

The introduction of programmability and dynamic protocol deployment in routers, there would be an increase in the potential vulnerabilities and attacks . The next- generation Internet promises to provide a fundamental shift in the underlying architecture to support dynamic deployment of network protocols. In this thesis, we consider the problem of detecting malicious packet drops in routers. Specifically, we focus on an attack scenario, where a router selectively drops packets destined for another node. Detecting such an attack is challenging since it requires differentiating malicious packet drops from congestion-based packet losses. We propose a controller- based malicious packet detection technique …

Software Design Of Mobile Antenna For Auto Satellite Tracking Using Modem Correction And Elevation Azimuth Method, Djamhari Sirat, Muhamad Asvial, Arman Djohan Diponegoro, Himawan Sidharta

Makara Journal of Technology

Software Design of Mobile Antenna for Auto Satellite Tracking Using Modem Correction and Elevation Azimuth Method. Pointing accuracy is important in satellite communication. Because the satellite’s distance to the surface of the earth's satellite is so huge, 1 degree of pointing error will make the antenna unable to send data to satellites. To overcome this, the auto-tracking satellite controller is made. This system uses a microcontroller as the controller, with the GPS as the location indicator of the antenna, a digital compass as the beginning of antenna pointing direction, a rotary encoder as azimuth and elevation censor, and a modem …

An Analysis Of Neutral Drift's Effect On The Evolution Of A Ctrnn Locomotion Controller With Noisy Fitness Evaluation, Gregory Robert Kramer

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on the evolution of Continuous Time Recurrent Neural Networks (CTRNNs) as controllers for control systems. Existing research suggests that the process of neutral drift can greatly benefit evolution for problems whose fitness landscapes contain large-scale neutral networks. CTRNNs are known to be highly degenerate, providing a possible source of large-scale landscape neutrality, and existing research suggests that neutral drift benefits the evolution of simple CTRNNs. However, there has been no in-depth examination of the effects of neutral drift on complex CTRNN controllers, especially in the presence of noisy fitness evaluation. To address this problem, this dissertation presents …

Design Of Induction Motor Drive Without Velocity Sensor Using Current Vector Controller With Full And Reduced Observer Moving To Dq Axis, Ridwan Gunawan, Feri Yusivar, Wahidin Wahab, Zuhal A. Kadir

Makara Journal of Technology

Design of Induction Motor Drive Without Velocity Sensor Using Current Vector Controller with Full and Reduced Observer Moving to DQ Axis. The observer is used in estimation velocity sensor usually in α-β axis, therefore this situation will need an extra transformation when we want to add compensator because the flux model is in direct and quadrature-axis dq. Every used the transformation to make possible emerge an error. So in this simulation is used a method to estimate the velocity of induction motor drive with observer that is moved to dq-axis. The model of actual motor used is in alfa-beta axis, …

Final Design Report Of Computer Controller Of Robotic Arm, Kurt Niederhauser

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

My Part of the project was to design the hardware. I assembled the TT8 microprocessor and designed the optocial isolation board for the input and output signals to the TT8 microprocessor. We had two boards. One board had the TT8 Processor and other chips used for regulating the affairs of the TT8 (This board I assembled), and then there was another board that had all the control signals for the TT8 (this board I had to design), which sent the signals letting the TT8 know when the robot arm had been extended or retracted as far is it could go. …
