Predictive Ai Applications For Sar Cases In The Us Coast Guard, Joshua Nelson Apr 2024

Predictive Ai Applications For Sar Cases In The Us Coast Guard, Joshua Nelson

Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase

This paper explores the potential integration of predictive analytics AI into the United States Coast Guard's (USCG) Search and Rescue Optimal Planning System (SAROPS) for deep sea and nearshore search and rescue (SAR) operations. It begins by elucidating the concept of predictive analytics AI and its relevance in military applications, particularly in enhancing SAR procedures. The current state of SAROPS and its challenges, including complexity and accuracy issues, are outlined. By integrating predictive analytics AI into SAROPS, the paper argues for streamlined operations, reduced training burdens, and improved accuracy in locating drowning personnel. Drawing on insights from military AI applications …

Ransomware: What Is Ransomware, And How To Prevent It, Brandon Chambers

Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase

This research paper answers the question, “What is Ransomware, and How to prevent it?”. This paper will discuss what ransomware is, its history about ransomware, how ransomware attacks Windows systems, how to prevent ransomware, how to handle ransomware once it is already on the network, ideas for training professionals to avoid ransomware, and how anti-virus helps defend against ransomware. Many different articles, case studies, and professional blogs will be used to complete the research on this topic.

Efficient Gpu Implementation Of Automatic Differentiation For Computational Fluid Dynamics, Mohammad Zubair, Desh Ranjan, Aaron Walden, Gabriel Nastac, Eric Nielsen, Boris Diskin, Marc Paterno, Samuel Jung, Joshua Hoke Davis Jan 2023

Efficient Gpu Implementation Of Automatic Differentiation For Computational Fluid Dynamics, Mohammad Zubair, Desh Ranjan, Aaron Walden, Gabriel Nastac, Eric Nielsen, Boris Diskin, Marc Paterno, Samuel Jung, Joshua Hoke Davis

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Many scientific and engineering applications require repeated calculations of derivatives of output functions with respect to input parameters. Automatic Differentiation (AD) is a method that automates derivative calculations and can significantly speed up code development. In Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), derivatives of flux functions with respect to state variables (Jacobian) are needed for efficient solutions of the nonlinear governing equations. AD of flux functions on graphics processing units (GPUs) is challenging as flux computations involve many intermediate variables that create high register pressure and require significant memory traffic because of the need to store the derivatives. This paper presents a …

A Saliency-Driven Video Magnifier For People With Low Vision, Ali Selman Aydin, Shirin Feiz, Iv Ramakrishnan, Vikas Ashok Jan 2020

A Saliency-Driven Video Magnifier For People With Low Vision, Ali Selman Aydin, Shirin Feiz, Iv Ramakrishnan, Vikas Ashok

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Consuming video content poses significant challenges for many screen magnifier users, which is the “go to” assistive technology for people with low vision. While screen magnifier software could be used to achieve a zoom factor that would make the content of the video visible to low-vision users, it is oftentimes a major challenge for these users to navigate through videos. Towards making videos more accessible for low-vision users, we have developed the SViM video magnifier system [6]. Specifically, SViM consists of three different magnifier interfaces with easy-to-use means of interactions. All three interfaces are driven by visual saliency as a …

Topical Review Of Vulnerability Management For Local Hampton Roads Industry, Gregory W. Hubbard Jr., Matthew Eunice Jan 2020

Topical Review Of Vulnerability Management For Local Hampton Roads Industry, Gregory W. Hubbard Jr., Matthew Eunice

OUR Journal: ODU Undergraduate Research Journal

The progress towards an interconnected digital world offers an exciting level of advancement for humanity. Unfortunately, this “online” connection is not safe from the threats and dangers typically associated with physical operations. With the foundation of Cyber Command of DoD cyberspace, the United States Government is taking a prominent stance in cyberspace operations. Like the federal government, both industries and individuals are not immune and are oftentimes unknowingly at risk to cyberattack. This report hopes to bring awareness to common vulnerabilities in multi-user networks by describing a historical background on cyber security as well as outlining current methods of vulnerability …

A Companion Study Guide For The Cisco Dcicn Data Center Certification Exam (200-150), Miguel Ramlatchan Dec 2018

A Companion Study Guide For The Cisco Dcicn Data Center Certification Exam (200-150), Miguel Ramlatchan

Distance Learning Faculty & Staff Books

The official Cisco DCICN book and practice exams are great resources, but this is not an easy exam. This study guide is a companion to those resources and summarizes the subject areas into additional review questions with an answer description for each item. This book is not a "braindump" and it is not bootleg screenshots of the actual exam. Instead, this book provides additional context and examples, serves to complement other study guides, and provides additional examples. If you are getting ready to take the exam for the first time, I hope that this guide provides the extra help to …

Content Mining Techniques For Detecting Cyberbullying In Social Media, Shawniece L. Parker, Yen-Hung Hu Oct 2016

Content Mining Techniques For Detecting Cyberbullying In Social Media, Shawniece L. Parker, Yen-Hung Hu

Virginia Journal of Science

The use of social media has become an increasingly popular trend, and it is most favorite amongst teenagers. A major problem concerning teens using social media is that they are often unaware of the dangers involved when using these media. Also, teenagers are more inclined to misuse social media because they are often unaware of the privacy rights associated with the use of that particular media, or the rights of the other users. As a result, cyberbullying cases have a steady rise in recent years and have gone undiscovered, or are not discovered until serious harm has been caused to …

Software Development Project Risk Management: A Literature Review, Kevin Macg. Adams, C. Ariel Pinto Jan 2005

Software Development Project Risk Management: A Literature Review, Kevin Macg. Adams, C. Ariel Pinto

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

The rapid and unprecedented growth in software has brought with it some of the most spectacular and costly project failures in modern history. How risk management is presented in the scholarly journals may give insight into the risk management methods and techniques in use on software development projects. This paper provides a glimpse into the risk management methods, methodologies and techniques available to those who are responsible for software development projects by conducting a non-experimental content analysis. The findings reveal that risk management has not received sufficient attention and does not appear to be widely accepted within the software engineering …
