Modeling is essential to better understand the generative mechanisms responsible for experimental observations gathered from complex systems. In this work, we are using such an approach to analyze the electrocardiogram (ECG). We present a systematic framework to decompose ECG signals into sums of overlapping lognormal components. We use reinforcement learning to train a deep neural network to estimate the modeling parameters from an ECG recorded in babies from 1 to 24 months of age. We demonstrate this model-driven approach by showing how the extracted parameters vary with age. From the 751,510 PQRST complexes modeled, 82.7% provided a signal-to-noise ratio that …

Modeling, Simulation And Control Of Microrobots For The Microfactory., Zhong Yang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Future assembly technologies will involve higher levels of automation in order to satisfy increased microscale or nanoscale precision requirements. Traditionally, assembly using a top-down robotic approach has been well-studied and applied to the microelectronics and MEMS industries, but less so in nanotechnology. With the boom of nanotechnology since the 1990s, newly designed products with new materials, coatings, and nanoparticles are gradually entering everyone’s lives, while the industry has grown into a billion-dollar volume worldwide. Traditionally, nanotechnology products are assembled using bottom-up methods, such as self-assembly, rather than top-down robotic assembly. This is due to considerations of volume handling of large …

Modeling Of Quad-Station Module Cluster Tools Using Petri Nets, Aung Nay

Theses

The semiconductor industry is highly competitive, and with the recent chip shortage, the throughput of wafers has become more important than ever. One of the tools that the industry has deployed is to use of quad-station modules instead of the traditional single-station modules that allow for higher throughput and better wafer consistency by processing multiple wafers at the same time and distributing work. The industry trend is to use multiple transfer chamber robots to stack the quad-station modules in a series, particularly for etch products. In this work, the quad-station cluster tool wafer movement is modeled by using Petri net …

Detailed Modeling Of A Thermoelectric Generator For Maximum Power Point Tracking, Hayati̇ Mamur, Yusuf Çoban Jan 2020

Detailed Modeling Of A Thermoelectric Generator For Maximum Power Point Tracking, Hayati̇ Mamur, Yusuf Çoban

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are used in small power applications to generate electrical energy from waste heats. Maximum power is obtained when the connected load to the ends of TEGs matches their internal resistance. However, impedance matching cannot always be ensured. Therefore, TEGs operate at lower efficiency. For this reason, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms are utilized. In this study, both TEGs and a boost converter with MPPT were modeled together. Detailed modeling, simulation, and verification of TEGs depending on the Seebeck coefficient, the hot/cold side temperatures, and the number of modules in MATLAB/Simulink were carried out. In addition, a …

Research On Power-Frequency Electromagnetic Interference Model Of Multicore Twisted Signal Cable Of High-Speed Railway, Bowen Zhang, Jiangjian Xie, Zhixin Wang, Jin Yang, Hao Yan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

With the increase in the traction power of high-speed railways, the power-frequency electromagnetic interference of traction current to the signal cables becomes increasingly more severe. In this paper, the calculation model of the magnetic interference to signal cable was established on the MATLAB/Simulink platform based on the multiconductor transmission line theory. This model took SPTYWPL03-8B 8-core twist signal cable as an example and the power-frequency interference of external current to the signal cable was analyzed theoretically. In addition, experiments on electromagnetic interference of double-ended and single-ended signal cables were performed to validate the simulation model. Experiments showed that the relative …

Rlgc(F) Modeling Of A Busbar Distribution System Via Measured S-Parameters Atcenelec And Fcc Bands, Zeynep Hasirci, İsmai̇l Hakki Çavdar, Mehmet Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper addresses the extraction of accurate frequency-dependent per-unit-length RLGC parameters for busbar distribution systems using measured S-parameters for the CENELEC and FCC bands. A busbar is a distribution system element (three phase, low voltage) with a modular structure that carries electrical energy in buildings. The S-parameters of a busbar distribution system at different current levels (630 A, 1250 A, 2000 A) are measured with a vector network analyzer and then analyzed for three different two-port connections (L1-N, L2-N, L3-N). A frequency- dependent RLGC(f) model is used to characterize the busbar as a transmission line using a derivative-free optimization algorithm. …

A New Semianalytical Method For Analysis Of The Disc-Type Permanent Magnethysteresis Motor In Steady-State Operational Conditions, Ali Behniafar, Ahmad Darabi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Considering the characteristics of hysteresis and permanent magnet motors, it seems that these two motors are complements of each other. Thus, their combination yields a motor with an excellent performance. In order to preserve the major advantages of both motors in the new motor, a disc-type slotless structure is chosen. This paper presents a new finite-element method for the modeling of disc-type permanent magnet hysteresis synchronous (PMHS) motor. In this modeling method a new iterative algorithm is used. Programming software has been linked to finite- element software because of its limitation in the modeling of hysteresis phenomena. Validity of the …

Event And Time-Triggered Control Module Layers For Individual Robot Control Architectures Of Unmanned Agricultural Ground Vehicles, Tyler Troyer

Department of Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations and Theses

Automation in the agriculture sector has increased to an extent where the accompanying methods for unmanned field management are becoming more economically viable. This manifests in the industry’s recent presentation of conceptual cab-less machines that perform all field operations under the high-level task control of a single remote operator. A dramatic change in the overall workflow for field tasks that historically assumed the presence of a human in the immediate vicinity of the work is predicted. This shift in the entire approach to farm machinery work provides producers increased control and productivity over high-level tasks and less distraction from operating …

In the adapted scheme for controlling the faulty IM, it is necessary for the PI controller coefficients to change. For this purpose, the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is used for tuning of PI controllers. The results show the strength and ability of the technique to improve the performance of the faulty IM control.

Stability Assessment Of Isolated Six-Phase Induction Generator Feeding Static Loads, Kiran Singh, Girish Kumar Singh Jan 2016

Stability Assessment Of Isolated Six-Phase Induction Generator Feeding Static Loads, Kiran Singh, Girish Kumar Singh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents the stability analysis of a six-phase self-excited induction generator (SP-SEIG) based on the eigenvalue stability criteria for its linearized model. This demonstrates the small signal stability behavior during steady-state operating conditions. The eigenvalue approach also establishes an opportunity to correlate eigenvalues with machine parameters. The investigation in this paper reveals that the eigenvalues are dependent upon the machine parameters, and the most critical parameter is the variation in magnetizing inductance (L$_{m})$. The eigenvalues are varied in accordance with the machine variables and give focus to the stabilization of the SP-SEIG. A particular voltage build-up phenomenon is also …

Oxidation Process Of H 2 O /Uv For Cod Reduction Of Wastewater From Soybean Tofu Production, Komala Pontas, Abrar Muslim

Makara Journal of Technology

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) reduction of wastewater from soybean tofu production was studied by conducting advanced oxidation process (AOP) using hydrogen peroxide with UV radiation catalysts in a closed cylindrical glass reactor. The hydroxyl radical (*OH) concentration from H2O2 decomposition was modeled, and exponential trends were found for the *OH concentration over radiation time and operation temperature. As a result, it was found that the maximal *OH concentration was 0.209 mol L-1 at 240 minutes and 50 °C. The *OH concentration exponentially increased following rise in operation temperature. The H2O2/UV AOP application reduced COD concentration to approximately 42.41% from 10,545 …

Adaptive Network-Based Inference System Models On Multiband Patch Antenna Design, Erdem Demi̇rci̇oğlu, Murat Hüsnü Sazli, Orhan Şengül, Şehabeddi̇n Taha İmeci̇, Hakki Alparslan Ilgin

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this study, an adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for multiband microstrip patch antenna (MMPA) modeling is proposed. The MMPA includes a single patch with inverted L-shaped stubs on the edges. The antenna production process needs iterative runs of the electromagnetic (EM) simulator, fabricating and testing the simulated antenna to find the optimum geometry. Production processes (design, simulation, fabrication, and testing) and the cost computation time add to the overall manufacturing expenses. A computer-aided modeling approach using the ANFIS is developed and trained with data acquired from the EM simulators, Sonnet Suites and AWR AXIEM, and measurement data. The …

On Modeling Eavesdropping Attacks In Wireless Networks, Xuran Li, Jianlong Xu, Hong-Ning Dai, Qinglin Zhao, Chak Fong Cheang, Qiu Wang

Hong-Ning Dai

This paper concerns the eavesdropping attacks from the eavesdroppers’ perspective, which is new since most of current studies consider the problem from the good nodes’ perspective. In this paper, we originally propose an analytical framework to quantify the effective area and the probability of the eavesdropping attacks. This framework enables us to theoretically evaluate the impact of node density, antenna model, and wireless channel model on the eavesdropping attacks. We verify via extensive simulations that the proposed analytical framework is very accurate. Our results show that the probability of eavesdropping attacks significantly vary, depending on the wireless environments (such as …

Analysis Of A Dual Scissored-Pair,Variable-Speed, Control Moment Gyroscope Driven Spherical Robot, Richard Chase

Wayne State University Dissertations

The objective of this research is to compare barycenter offset based designs of spherical robots to control moment gyroscope (CMG) based designs in order to determine which approach is most effective. The first objective was to develop a list of current state of the art designs in order to gain an overall understanding of what the obstacles in this area of research were. The investigation showed that barycenter offset designs can produce a low, continuous output torque, whereas CMG based designs can usually only produce a high, momentary output torque. The second objective was to develop a CMG based design …

Design Of A Double-Stator Linear Switched Reluctance Motor For Shunting Railway Channels, El Manaa Barhoumi, Mansour Hajji, Boujemaa Ben Salah

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents the design and modeling of a double-stator linear switched reluctance motor for motorizing a railway channels' shunting system. The magnetic behavior of this actuator is nonlinear due to the saturation and nonlinear magnetization curves of the materials used in this actuator. For this reason, the electromagnetic quantities such as force, flux linkage, and inductance are calculated with the finite element method using the Maxwell tool. The obtained results are presented and discussed. In order to elaborate some control strategies, a new model for the proposed actuator, based on the flux and force characteristics, is validated by the …

Modeling A Sensor To Improve Its Efficacy, Nabin K. Malakar, Daniil Gladkov, Kevin H. Knuth

Physics Faculty Scholarship

Robots rely on sensors to provide them with information about their surroundings. However, high-quality sensors can be extremely expensive and cost-prohibitive. Thus many robotic systems must make due with lower-quality sensors. Here we demonstrate via a case study how modeling a sensor can improve its efficacy when employed within a Bayesian inferential framework. As a test bed we employ a robotic arm that is designed to autonomously take its own measurements using an inexpensive LEGO light sensor to estimate the position and radius of a white circle on a black field. The light sensor integrates the light arriving from a …

A dynamic mathematical model for a new structure of precision air conditioning (PAC) has been developed. The proposed PAC uses an additional secondary condenser for relative humidity regulation compared to a basic refrigeration system. The work mechanism for this system and a vapour-compression cycle process of the system are illustrated using psychrometric chart and pressure-enthalpy diagram. A non-linear system model is derived based on the conservation of mass and energy balance principles and then linearized at steady state operating point for developing a 8th-order state space model suited for multivariable controller design. The quality of linearized model is analyzed in …
