Fault Identification And Location For Distribution Network With Distributed Generations, Wen Fan, Yuan Liao

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Power distribution networks with distributed generations may experience faults. It is essential to promptly locate the fault for fast repair and restoration. This paper presents a novel method for identifying the faulted section and accurate location of faults that occur on power distribution grid. Appropriate matrices are set up to represent meter locations on the grid and the topology of the grid. The voltage and current measurements obtained are utilized to decide the fault sections. Then fault location is determined by solving equations that link measurements and fault locations through bus impedance matrix. The method is applicable to both single …

Grid-Connected Quasi-Z-Source Inverter With Battery, Umesh Shinde, Sagar Kottagattu, Sumant Kadwane, Snehal Gawande Jan 2018

Grid-Connected Quasi-Z-Source Inverter With Battery, Umesh Shinde, Sagar Kottagattu, Sumant Kadwane, Snehal Gawande

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Grid-connected inverters are now increasingly used in distributed microgrid and smart-grid applications. The advantages of a quasi-Z-source inverter (QZSI), like single-stage operation, lower component rating, continuous input current, and common DC rail, led to an investigation of this converter for grid-connected applications. This paper presents a grid-connected QZSI with both AC and DC side controls. A new battery-charging configuration is also suggested across the capacitor through which the DC side control loop is regulated. Fast dynamic response and reduced harmonics are demonstrated through simulation and experimental results.

Two-Stage Optimization Method For Power Loss And Voltage Profile Control Indistribution Systems With Dgs And Evs Using Stochastic Second-Order Coneprogramming, Huiling Tang, Jiekang Wu, Zhijiang Wu, Lingmin Chen Jan 2018

Two-Stage Optimization Method For Power Loss And Voltage Profile Control Indistribution Systems With Dgs And Evs Using Stochastic Second-Order Coneprogramming, Huiling Tang, Jiekang Wu, Zhijiang Wu, Lingmin Chen

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper introduces a stochastic second-order cone programming (SSCOP) approach to solve the distributed generation coordination problem considering the uncertainty of electric vehicle charging in distribution networks. To minimize the total power loss in the distribution system, the problem is formulated to coordinate the output power of distributed generations (DGs). Two stages are presented to solve the optimization problem: the first stage is to optimize the output power of distributed generators without electric vehicle charging in the distribution system, and the second stage is to optimize the output power of distributed generators according to the stochastic increased load due to …

Robust Restoration Of Distribution Systems Considering Dg Units And Direct Load Control Programs, Abolfazl Asadi, Mahmud Fotuhi Firuzabad Jan 2018

Robust Restoration Of Distribution Systems Considering Dg Units And Direct Load Control Programs, Abolfazl Asadi, Mahmud Fotuhi Firuzabad

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents a new method for restoration of distribution networks after a fault occurrence. This problem is solved from the viewpoint of the distribution system operator with the main goal of minimizing the operating cost during the fault clearance period. The effects of distributed generation (DG) units and direct load control (DLC) programs are considered in designing the proposed restoration procedure. Moreover, the uncertainties associated with the predicted loads of different nodes and the availability of DG are modeled here. Robust optimization is used to model the uncertainties of restoration problems and manage their associated risks. Finally, a robust …
