Periodontitis is a high prevalence dental disease caused by bacterial infection of the bone that surrounds the tooth. Early detection and precision treatment can prevent more severe symptoms such as tooth loss. Traditionally, periodontal disease is identified and labeled manually by dental professionals. The task requires expertise and extensive experience, and it is highly repetitive and time-consuming. The aim of this study is to explore the application of AI in the field of dental medicine. With the inherent learning capabilities, AI exhibits remarkable proficiency in processing extensive datasets and effectively managing repetitive tasks. This is particularly advantageous in professions demanding …

Towards The Development Of A Blockchain System For Philippine Government Processes For Enhanced Transparency And Verifiability, Karlo Angelo F. Cabugwang, Raphael Christen K. Enriquez, Bienvenido E. Villabroza, Christian E. Pulmano Jan 2023

There are cases of corruption and fraud within the Philippine government that have gone under the radar, often due to a lack of transparency and verifiability. The objective of this study is to prototype a blockchain network that can run a government process as a decentralized application such that it can enhance transparency and verifiability in the public sector. This can be accomplished by identifying a government process that would be converted into a decentralized application. One of these processes would be converted into a decentralized application. Afterwards, a blockchain framework should be identified one which can create a public …

The dental panoramic radiograph (DPR) is a pivotal diagnostic tool in dentistry. However, despite the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI) across various medical domains, manual methods remain the prevailing means of interpreting DPR images. This study aims to introduce an advanced identification system for detecting seven dental conditions in DPR images by utilizing Faster R-CNN. The primary objectives are to enhance dentists' efficiency and evaluate the performance of various CNN models as foundational training networks. This study contributes significantly to the field in several notable ways. Firstly, including a Butterworth filter in the training process yielded an approximately 7% …

Performance Evaluation Of Face Mask Detection For Real-Time Implementation On An Rpi, Ivan George L. Tarun, Vidal Wyatt M. Lopez, Pamela Anne C. Serrano, Patricia Angela R. Abu, Rosula Reyes, Ma. Regina Justina Estuar Jan 2023

Mask-wearing remains to be one of the primary protective measures against COVID-19. To address the difficulty of manual compliance monitoring, face mask detection models considerate of both frontal and angled faces were developed. This study aimed to test the performance of the said models in classifying multi-face images and upon running on a Raspberry Pi device. The accuracies and inference speeds were measured and compared when inferencing images with one, two, and three faces and on the desktop and the Raspberry Pi. With an increasing number of faces in an image, the models’ accuracies were observed to decline, while their …

Identifying Code Reading Strategies In Debugging Using Sta With A Tolerance Algorithm, Christine Lourrine S. Tablatin, Ma. Mercedes T. Rodrigo Jan 2022

Identifying Code Reading Strategies In Debugging Using Sta With A Tolerance Algorithm, Christine Lourrine S. Tablatin, Ma. Mercedes T. Rodrigo

The purpose of this study was to identify the common code reading strategies of the high and low performing students engaged in a debugging task. Using Scanpath Trend Analysis (STA) with a tolerance on eye tracking data, common scanpaths of high and low performing students were generated. The common scanpaths revealed differences in the code reading patterns and code reading strategies of high and low performing students. High performing students follow a bottom-up code reading strategy when debugging complex programs with logical and semantic errors. A top-down code reading strategy is employed when debugging programs with simple control structures, few …

Predicting Pair Success In A Pair Programming Eye Tracking Experiment Using Cross-Recurrence Quantification Analysis, Maureen M. Villamor, Maria Mercedes T. Rodrigo Jan 2022

Predicting Pair Success In A Pair Programming Eye Tracking Experiment Using Cross-Recurrence Quantification Analysis, Maureen M. Villamor, Maria Mercedes T. Rodrigo

Department of Information Systems & Computer Science Faculty Publications

Pair programming is a model of collaborative learning. It has become a well-known pedagogical practice in teaching introductory programming courses because of its potential benefits to students. This study aims to investigate pair patterns in the context of pair program tracing and debugging to determine what characterizes collaboration and how these patterns relate to success, where success is measured in terms of performance task scores. This research used eye-tracking methodologies and techniques such as cross-recurrence quantification analysis. The potential indicators for pair success were used to create a model for predicting pair success. Findings suggest that it is possible to …

Nbp 2.0: Updated Next Bar Predictor, An Improved Algorithmic Music Generator, Belinda M. Dungan, Proceso L. Fernandez Jr Jan 2022

Nbp 2.0: Updated Next Bar Predictor, An Improved Algorithmic Music Generator, Belinda M. Dungan, Proceso L. Fernandez Jr

Deep neural network advancements have enabled machines to produce melodies emulating human-composed music. However, the implementation of such machines is costly in terms of resources. In this paper, we present NBP 2.0, a refinement of the previous model next bar predictor (NBP) with two notable improvements: first, transforming each training instance to anchor all the notes to its musical scale, and second, changing the model architecture itself. NBP 2.0 maintained its straightforward and lightweight implementation, which is an advantage over the baseline models. Improvements were assessed using quantitative and qualitative metrics and, based on the results, the improvements from these …
