Implicit Relation-Based Question Answering To Answer Simple Questions Overdbpedia, Maryam Jamehshourani, Afsaneh Fatemi, Mohammadali Nematbakhsh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

RDF-based question answering systems give users the capability of natural language querying over RDF data. In order to respond to natural language questions, it is necessary that the main concept of the question be interpreted correctly, and then it is mapped to RDF data. A natural language question includes entities, classes, and implicit and explicit relationships. In this article, by focusing on identification and mapping of implicit relationships in the question (in addition to the explicit relationships), the mapping step has been improved. In the proposed solution (IRQA), entities and implicit/explicit relationships are identified by means of the provided rules …

Is There A Correlation Between Wikidata Revisions And Trending Hashtags On Twitter?, Paula Dooley [Thesis] Jan 2019

Is There A Correlation Between Wikidata Revisions And Trending Hashtags On Twitter?, Paula Dooley [Thesis]

Dissertations

Twitter is a microblogging application used by its members to interact and stay socially connected by sharing instant messages called tweets that are up to 280 characters long. Within these tweets, users can add hashtags to relate the message to a topic that is shared among users. Wikidata is a central knowledge base of information relying on its members and machines bots to keeping its content up to date. The data is stored in a highly structured format with the added SPARQL protocol and RDF Query Language (SPARQL) endpoint to allow users to query its knowledge base.

Over the years, the semantic web has emerged as a new generation of the world wide web featuring advanced technologies and research contributions. It has revolutionized the usage of information by allowing users to capture and publish machine-understandable data and expedite methods such as ontologies to perform the same. These ontologies help in the formal representation of a specified domain and foster comprehensive machine understanding. Although, the engineering of ontologies and usage of logic have been an integral part of the web semantics, new areas of research such as the semantic web search, linking and usage of open data on …

Linked data has experienced accelerated growth in recent years due to its interlinking ability across disparate sources, made possible via machine-processable RDF data. Today, a large number of organizations, including governments and news providers, publish data in RDF format, inviting developers to build useful applications through reuse and integration of structured data. This has led to tremendous increase in the amount of RDF data on the web. Although the growth of RDF data can be viewed as a positive sign for semantic web initiatives, it causes performance bottlenecks for RDF data management systems that store and provide access to data. …

Improving Response Time Of Database Systems By Semantification Of Relational Data, Mustafa Yeni̇ad, Yakup Kutlu Jan 2016

Improving Response Time Of Database Systems By Semantification Of Relational Data, Mustafa Yeni̇ad, Yakup Kutlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

New generation web technologies present the new problem of intelligent representation of data in semantically structured systems. In this study, data hosted in a relational database system were converted to a new generation of web technologies (i.e. Web 3.0) with the semantic mapping method and semantification of the data was accomplished. The success of the transformation procedure was verified by a cross-comparison of the data between the relational database and the semantic data repository. By comparing the response time for performing SQL queries and equivalent SPARQL queries such as select, insert, update, and delete, operations hold in the semantic data …

The formal semantics of the Web Ontology Language (OWL) enables automated reasoning over OWL knowledge bases, which in turn can be used for a variety of purposes including knowledge base development, querying and management. Automated reasoning is usually done by means of deductive (proof-theoretic) algorithms which are either provably sound and complete or employ approximate methods to trade some correctness for improved efficiency. As has been argued elsewhere, however, reasoning methods for the Semantic Web do not necessarily have to be based on deductive methods, and approximate reasoning using statistical or machine-learning approaches may bring improved speed while maintaining high …
