Minimum Number Of Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Generators For Coordinated Low-Voltage Ride-Through Of Induction Generators In Hybrid Wind Farms, Shenghu Li, Rui An

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Coordinated low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) of induction generators (IGs) utilizing the excessive reactive power of permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) in hybrid wind farms is attractive due to saving investments on shunt compensators. The existing research is mainly based on dynamic simulations to given scenarios and does not quantify the necessary capacity and number of PMSGs. This paper newly proposes an analytical model to quantify the minimum number of the PMSGs for coordinated LVRT. The critical voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) leading to slip instability of the IGs is quantified. To avoid instability, necessary var support from the …

Grid-Connected Induction Generator Interturn Fault Analysis Using A Pca-Ann-Based Algorithm, Haydar Bayar, Ümi̇t Kemaletti̇n Terzi̇ Jan 2016

Grid-Connected Induction Generator Interturn Fault Analysis Using A Pca-Ann-Based Algorithm, Haydar Bayar, Ümi̇t Kemaletti̇n Terzi̇

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

It is difficult for short circuits among the internal windings of one phase in electrical machines to be determined in a reliable and speedy manner. The failure currents that occur, especially in short circuits with a few windings, are at such low levels that they cannot be determined by relay systems. This results in growing faults and damage. In this study, we designed a model that can define winding failures successfully at very small levels by using the PCA and ANN algorithms. We tested the real-time faults and measured the system performance with the installed test rig. The developed protection …

Stability Assessment Of Isolated Six-Phase Induction Generator Feeding Static Loads, Kiran Singh, Girish Kumar Singh Jan 2016

Stability Assessment Of Isolated Six-Phase Induction Generator Feeding Static Loads, Kiran Singh, Girish Kumar Singh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents the stability analysis of a six-phase self-excited induction generator (SP-SEIG) based on the eigenvalue stability criteria for its linearized model. This demonstrates the small signal stability behavior during steady-state operating conditions. The eigenvalue approach also establishes an opportunity to correlate eigenvalues with machine parameters. The investigation in this paper reveals that the eigenvalues are dependent upon the machine parameters, and the most critical parameter is the variation in magnetizing inductance (L$_{m})$. The eigenvalues are varied in accordance with the machine variables and give focus to the stabilization of the SP-SEIG. A particular voltage build-up phenomenon is also …
