Guidelines For Designing The Overhead Transmission Tower Foundations Adjacent To Cohesionless Slopes, Meshel Q. Alkahtani Nov 2021

Guidelines For Designing The Overhead Transmission Tower Foundations Adjacent To Cohesionless Slopes, Meshel Q. Alkahtani

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Foundations supporting electrical transmission line towers are subjected to oblique loading due to tower own weight along with wind loading. Due to land limitation and linear alignment of transmission lines, many power transmission towers are situated in sand near sloping grounds and proper evaluation of their foundation performance is essential for the safety and reliability of the critical power transmission lines. There is currently no guidance available on the behaviour of transmission towers foundations constructed near slopes. Thus, the primary objectives of this study are to evaluate the response of transmission tower foundations in cohesionless sloping grounds and investigate the …

Study On Bearing Capacity Of Permeable Pipe Pile By Field Optical Fiber Monitoring, Jing Wang, Tao Xiao, Hong-Hu Zhu, Guo-Xiong Mei, Zheng-Yuan Liu, Guang-Qing Wei Nov 2021

Study On Bearing Capacity Of Permeable Pipe Pile By Field Optical Fiber Monitoring, Jing Wang, Tao Xiao, Hong-Hu Zhu, Guo-Xiong Mei, Zheng-Yuan Liu, Guang-Qing Wei

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Permeable pipe piles are set in the soft soil foundation to accelerate the dissipation rate of excess pore water pressure induced by pile driving and then to accelerate the consolidation of soil around the pile. At present, there are many studies, including model tests and numerical simulation, on the bearing capacity and permeability performance of permeable pipe piles. However, few field tests have been conducted to deeply study the time effect of bearing capacity and load transfer law of permeable pipe piles. Based on the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology, the static load tests were carried out to study the …

A Practical Method Of Calculation Of Bearing Capacity And Settlement Of Large- Diameter Post-Grouting Piles, Zhi-Hui Wan, Guo-Liang Dai, Lu-Chao Gao, Wei-Ming Gong Jan 2021

A Practical Method Of Calculation Of Bearing Capacity And Settlement Of Large- Diameter Post-Grouting Piles, Zhi-Hui Wan, Guo-Liang Dai, Lu-Chao Gao, Wei-Ming Gong

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Based on the static load test data of 716 test piles collected from 139 projects, the practical calculation method of bearing capacity and settlement of large-diameter post-grouted piles was studied. The improvement coefficients of the side friction and base resistance of soil layer were given primarily based on statistics analysis, and the practical calculation approach for the bearing capacity of large-diameter post-grouted piles applicable to different grouting types was presented. The reliability of the proposed approach was verified by a large number of measured data. Moreover, the influence coefficient of post-grouting settlement was introduced based on the settlement calculation method …

Experimental Study On Repeatedly Loaded Foundation Soil Strengthened By Wraparound Geosynthetic Reinforcement Technique, Muhammad Nouman Amjad Raja, Sanjay K. Shukla Jan 2021

Experimental Study On Repeatedly Loaded Foundation Soil Strengthened By Wraparound Geosynthetic Reinforcement Technique, Muhammad Nouman Amjad Raja, Sanjay K. Shukla

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

In the recent past, the potential benefits of wraparound geosynthetic reinforcement technique for constructing the reinforced soil foundations have been reported. This paper presents the experimental study on the behaviour of model strip footing resting on sandy soil bed reinforced with geosynthetic in wraparound and planar forms under monotonic and repeated loadings. The geosynthetic layers were laid according to the reinforcement ratio to minimise the scale effect. It is found that for the same amount of reinforcement material, the wraparound reinforced model resulted in less settlement in comparison to planar reinforced models. The efficiency of wraparound reinforced model increased with …
