Numerical Study On Failure Path Of Rock Slope Induced By Multi-Stage Excavation Unloading Based On Crack Propagation, Chuan Wang, Xian-Lun Leng, Zhan-Rong Zhang, Chuang Yang, Jian Chen

Rock and Soil Mechanics

The investigation on failure patterns and paths of cracked rock slopes under excavation unloading is one of the hot issues in the slope engineering field. Accurate identification of the potential failure path is of great significance for excavation safety and support design of the slope. A theoretical method for crack propagation discrimination was embedded into the numerical simulation based on the fracture propagation analysis method, and the quick simulation of initiation, propagation, and coalescence of discontinuous cracks in rock masses was realized through stress intensity factor calculation at crack tip, crack propagation pattern recognition, crack initiation angle derivation, and crack …

Experimental Study On Crack Evolution And Damage Characteristics Of Water Bearing Sandstone Under Cyclic Loading, Ke Yang, Zhai-Nan Zhang, Xiao-Lou Chi, Xin L, Zhen Wei, Wen-Jie Liu Sep 2022

Experimental Study On Crack Evolution And Damage Characteristics Of Water Bearing Sandstone Under Cyclic Loading, Ke Yang, Zhai-Nan Zhang, Xiao-Lou Chi, Xin L, Zhen Wei, Wen-Jie Liu

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Based on the engineering background that rock masses of underground reservoirs in mines are frequently disturbed by cyclic loads such as mine earthquake and mining stress, uniaxial compression and cyclic loading tests for sandstones with different water contents were carried out in laboratory. The crack propagation and failure laws of sandstones with different water contents were revealed by digital speckle technique. Based on scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis, the micro deterioration mechanism of sandstones with different water contents under cyclic loading was obtained. The test results show that the peak strength of sandstone decreases gradually with the increase of water …

The Phase Field Numerical Manifold Method For Crack Propagation In Rock, Liang Yang, Yong-Tao Yang, Hong Zheng Feb 2022

The Phase Field Numerical Manifold Method For Crack Propagation In Rock, Liang Yang, Yong-Tao Yang, Hong Zheng

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Fracture is one of the most common failure modes of materials and components and greatly restricts engineering design. Understanding of the crack propagation and evolution of rock and other engineering materials is of great significance to engineering construction. For the current numerical methods there are more or less limitations when analyzing the evolution of cracks, such as the mesh dependence of the crack path, the difficulty to deal with crack bifurcation and merging by the classic fracture criterion. In recent years, the phase field method (PFM) has been widely used in simulating crack growth. A phase field numerical manifold method …

Study On The Mechanical Model Of Macro-Mecro Creep Under High Seepage Pressure In Brittle Rocks, Xiao-Zhao Li, Li-Ren Ban, Cheng-Zhi Qi Apr 2021

Study On The Mechanical Model Of Macro-Mecro Creep Under High Seepage Pressure In Brittle Rocks, Xiao-Zhao Li, Li-Ren Ban, Cheng-Zhi Qi

Rock and Soil Mechanics

High seepage pressure has a great significance on creep behaviors of brittle rocks under deep underground engineering. However, the macro-mecro relationship between mecrocrack growth and macroscopic deformation under high seepage pressure during the decelerated, steady-state, accelerated creep has been rarely studied. In this study, based on the stress intensity model of crack tips with the influence of initial cracks and new wing cracks, the mechanical relationship between seepage pressure and initial cracks and new wing cracks is introduced, and the stress intensity model model of crack tips considering seepage pressure is established. Then combined with the subcritical crack law and …

Study On The Fracture Mechanism Of 3d-Printed-Joint Specimens Based On Dic Technology, Ai-Bing Jin, Shu-Liang Wang, Ben-Xin Wang, Hao Sun, Yi-Qing Zhao Mar 2021

Study On The Fracture Mechanism Of 3d-Printed-Joint Specimens Based On Dic Technology, Ai-Bing Jin, Shu-Liang Wang, Ben-Xin Wang, Hao Sun, Yi-Qing Zhao

Rock and Soil Mechanics

In order to accurately characterize the deformation and failure modes of prefabricated jointed rocks with different angles under uniaxial compression, a joint model based on 3D printing technology was used to simulate the structural surface in the rock mass. Rock specimens with precast joints with different angles were obtained by pouring cement mortar, and a uniaxial compression test was performed. At the same time, digital image correlation (DIC) technology was used to observe and analyze the process of crack formation, propagation, and penetration in the test specimen. The results showed that as the angle of prefabricated joints increased from 0° …

Experimental Study On Bearing Characteristics Of Bolt-Grouting In Shallow Fractured Surrounding Rock Of Roadway, Rui Pan, Hua Cheng, Lei Wang, Feng-Yun Wang, Yi Cai, Guang-Yong Cao, Peng Zhang, Hao-Jie Zhang Nov 2020

Experimental Study On Bearing Characteristics Of Bolt-Grouting In Shallow Fractured Surrounding Rock Of Roadway, Rui Pan, Hua Cheng, Lei Wang, Feng-Yun Wang, Yi Cai, Guang-Yong Cao, Peng Zhang, Hao-Jie Zhang

Rock and Soil Mechanics

To clarify the bearing characteristics of bolt-grouting support in shallow fractured surrounding rock of roadway, comparative bolt-grouting bearing capacity test was carried out with different rock particle sizes, lithologies, and number of bolts. The results show that: 1) the bearing capacity of the bolt-grouting increases first and then decreases with increasing the particle size. Compared with the non-anchored specimens under the same conditions, the peak stress of the anchored specimens increases by 53.38% on average, and the peak strain decreases by 46.43% on average. 2) Under anchored condition, the free surface opposite to the supporting surface and its vicinity are …
