Slope Stability Of An Unsaturated Embankment With And Without Natural Pore Water Salinity Subjected To Rainfall Infiltration, Sadeghi Hamed, Kolahdooz Ali, Ahmadi Mohammad-Mehdi

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Natural soils contain a certain amount of salt in the form of dissolved ions or electrically charged atoms, originated from the long-term erosion by acidic rainwater. The dissolved salt poses an extra osmotic water potential being normally neglected in laboratory measurements and numerical analyses. However, ignorance of salinity may result in overestimation of stability, and the design may not be as conservative as thought. Therefore, this research aims to first experimentally examine the influence of pore water salinity on water retention curve and saturated permeability of natural dispersive loess under saline and desalinated conditions. Second, the measured parameters are used …

System Failure Probability Analysis Of Cohesive Slope Considering The Spatial Variability Of Undrained Shear Strength, Hui Liu, Jun-Jie Zheng, Rong-Jun Zhang Oct 2021

System Failure Probability Analysis Of Cohesive Slope Considering The Spatial Variability Of Undrained Shear Strength, Hui Liu, Jun-Jie Zheng, Rong-Jun Zhang

Rock and Soil Mechanics

A system failure probability analysis method of cohesive slope considering the spatial variability of undrained shear strength is proposed. In this method, the local averaging parameter of the random field of undrained shear strength on slip surface is introduced as an equivalent parameter. The statistical characters of the equivalent parameter and the correlation coefficient between different equivalent parameters are formulated. Then, the reliability index of a single failure mode and the correlation coefficient between different failure modes are calculated based on the equivalent parameters. By considering both the reliability index and correlation coefficient between different failure modes, the representative slip …

One Package Of Schemes For Some Difficult Issues In Finite Element Plasticity Analysis, Hong Zheng, Tan Zhang, Qiu-Sheng Wang Jun 2021

One Package Of Schemes For Some Difficult Issues In Finite Element Plasticity Analysis, Hong Zheng, Tan Zhang, Qiu-Sheng Wang

Rock and Soil Mechanics

The Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion takes on the simplest form in the Mohr stress space, which has thus been most extensively applied in limit analysis and limit equilibrium methods because of its accuracy. However, the Mohr-Coulomb yield surface in the stress space is non-smooth, causing huge troubles to the constitutive integration in the deformation based finite element plasticity analysis. In addressing strength problems, meanwhile, solvers based on the load controlled method (LCM) are hard to bring the finite element model to the limit equilibrium state. Aiming at these issues, the solution schemes are proposed as follows. First, an algorithm named GSPC …

A Study On The Rainfall Infiltration Of Granite Residual Soil Slope With An Improved Green-Ampt Model, Yong-Liang Pan, Wen-Xing Jian, Lin-Jun Li, Yu-Qiu Lin, Peng-Fei Tian Jan 2021

A Study On The Rainfall Infiltration Of Granite Residual Soil Slope With An Improved Green-Ampt Model, Yong-Liang Pan, Wen-Xing Jian, Lin-Jun Li, Yu-Qiu Lin, Peng-Fei Tian

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Granite residual soil is widely distributed in southern China, and it has many poor physical and mechanical properties. Slopes of this type of soil are prone to deformation and failure under the action of rainfall. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the rainfall infiltration mechanism in granite residual soil slopes. On the basis of Green-Ampt model, the initial moisture content, underground water level and unsaturated characteristics of the soil are comprehensively considered. An infiltration model suitable for different rainfall conditions is established, and verified by comparison between numerical simulations and other models. Then, the proposed model is used …

Stability Analysis Of Slope Based On Green-Ampt Model Under Heavy Rainfall, Yong-Hua Su, Cheng-Cheng Li Sep 2020

Stability Analysis Of Slope Based On Green-Ampt Model Under Heavy Rainfall, Yong-Hua Su, Cheng-Cheng Li

Rock and Soil Mechanics

The method of rainfall infiltration analysis directly affects the prediction and prevention of rainfall-induced landslides. Green-Ampt (GA) model, which has clear physical meaning and few parameters, has been paid more and more attention in the analysis of rainfall-induced landslides. However, this method ignores the existence of the unsaturated layer of the wetting layer and the seepage of the saturated layer, which affects the calculation accuracy. In view of the above deficiencies, the LSGA model is established based on the stratified hypothesis and the saturated layer seepage, and the expression of slope stability coefficient is established. All results show that LSGA …

A Study Of Water Content Distribution And Shallow Stability Of Earth Slopes Subject To Rainfall Infiltration, Zhen-Ning Shi, Shuang-Xing Qi, Hong-Yuan Fu, Ling Zeng, Zhong-Ming He, Rui-Min Fang Sep 2020

A Study Of Water Content Distribution And Shallow Stability Of Earth Slopes Subject To Rainfall Infiltration, Zhen-Ning Shi, Shuang-Xing Qi, Hong-Yuan Fu, Ling Zeng, Zhong-Ming He, Rui-Min Fang

Rock and Soil Mechanics

A rainfall infiltration test model which enables the measurement of the volumetric water content of soil is designed. The distribution and variation of the initial water content under rainfall infiltration are obtained through the test. Based on these results, a novel method for shallow stability analysis of earth slopes subject to rainfall infiltration is proposed by combining the unsaturated shear strength theory and the limit equilibrium method. The proposed method is then applied to study the stability of a soil slope along the Qili connecting line of Hang-Xin-Jing Expressway. The main findings are as follows: The inverse proportion function characterized …
