Research On The Failure Precursors Of Layered Slate Based On Multifractal Characteristics Of Acoustic Emission, Bo Sun, Fu-Qiang Ren, Dong-Qiao Liu

Rock and Soil Mechanics

In order to explore the failure precursors of layered slate, five groups of slate with different bedding angles (β = 0º, 30º, 45º, 60ºand 90º) were carried out using uniaxial compression tests, and the failure mode, acoustic emission (AE) parameters and multifractal characteristics are analyzed. The relationship between multifractal spectrum width (Δα) and damage evolution was discussed, and the precursor and warning time of final failure based on multifractal were determined. The results indicate that: when the bedding angle β increases from 0º to 90º, the failure modes of slate firstly change from tension-splitting failure to splitting-shear, then to shear …

Acoustic Emission Activity And Damage Evolution Characteristics Of Marble Under Triaxial Stress At High Temperatures, Hao-Ran Li, Zi-Heng Wang, Shi-Rong Meng, Wei-Gang Zhao, Feng Chen Jan 2022

Acoustic Emission Activity And Damage Evolution Characteristics Of Marble Under Triaxial Stress At High Temperatures, Hao-Ran Li, Zi-Heng Wang, Shi-Rong Meng, Wei-Gang Zhao, Feng Chen

Rock and Soil Mechanics

In order to reveal the fracture development and damage evolution law of marble under the influence of temperature, the deformation and failure characteristics and acoustic emission activity of marble under the conditions of 30, 60, 90, 120 ℃ and 150 ℃ were studied by using triaxial servo testing machine and acoustic emission testing system. The results show that the triaxial compression failure of marble under high temperature goes through four stages: compaction and elastic deformation stage, plastic deformation stage, ductile failure stage and instability failure stage. The higher the test temperature is, the longer the compaction deformation stage and ductile …

Mechanical Characteristics And Fracture Mechanism Of 3d Printed Rock Samples With Cross Joints, Ben-Xin Wang, Ai-Bing Jin, Shu-Liang Wang, Hao Sun May 2021

Mechanical Characteristics And Fracture Mechanism Of 3d Printed Rock Samples With Cross Joints, Ben-Xin Wang, Ai-Bing Jin, Shu-Liang Wang, Hao Sun

Rock and Soil Mechanics

The cross joints, which are ubiquitous in real rock mass, have significant influences on the fracture characteristics of rock mass but it has not been thoroughly studied. In this paper, the 3D printed samples with cross joints are made. The mechanical fracture characteristics of rock samples with cross joints under uniaxial compression are studied by means of acoustic emission, CT scanning technology and DIC image analysis. The results show that the relationships between fracture fractal dimension (DB) and uniaxial strength, elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio have similar trends when the dip angle of primary joint is small, which has a …

Numerical Simulation Of Failure Processes Of Heterogeneous Rock Specimens Under Assumption Of Invariant Spherical Stress During Stress Drop, Qin Shu, Xue-Bin Wang, Yang-Feng Zhao, Xue-Yuan Bai Mar 2021

Numerical Simulation Of Failure Processes Of Heterogeneous Rock Specimens Under Assumption Of Invariant Spherical Stress During Stress Drop, Qin Shu, Xue-Bin Wang, Yang-Feng Zhao, Xue-Yuan Bai

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Using the self-developed code based on the SPH (smoothed particle hydrodynamics) method, evolution of the shear bands and acoustic emission events during failure processes of heterogeneous rock specimens under plane strain uniaxial compression is studied. Based on the Mohr-Coulomb criterion with tensile truncation, the stress calculation method of the failed particle is deduced under the assumption that the spherical stress tensor is invariant during the stress drop. Numerical results show that the longitudinal stress-longitudinal strain curves of the specimens with lower homogeneous degrees demonstrate obvious strain hardening and strain softening stages; strain hardening stages of the specimens with higher homogeneous …

Experimental Study On Surrounding Rock Deformation And Acoustic Emission Characteristics Of Rectangular Roadway Under Different Loads, Gong-Yu Hou, Hao-Yong Jing, Jin-Ping Liang, Jin-Xin Tan, Yong-Kang Zhang, Xi Yang, Xin Xie Nov 2020

Experimental Study On Surrounding Rock Deformation And Acoustic Emission Characteristics Of Rectangular Roadway Under Different Loads, Gong-Yu Hou, Hao-Yong Jing, Jin-Ping Liang, Jin-Xin Tan, Yong-Kang Zhang, Xi Yang, Xin Xie

Rock and Soil Mechanics

To investigate the unloading deformation, failure and acoustic emission characteristics during excavation of rectangular roadway under different initial geostresses, excavation unloading model tests were carried out on casted surrounding-rock specimens made of cement mortar. The deformation and failure characteristics of the roof, corner and surrounding rock as well as the evolution characteristics of AE impact count, damage variable and frequency spectrum were obtained. Experimental results showed that: 1) The failure of rectangular roadway was mainly caused by the radial tension strain of the roof and surrounding rock, and the tangential compression strain of the corner. The deformation characteristics of the …
