Embok 5.0 - Industry 4.0/5.0 Manifest And Latent Dimensions Mapping To The Asem Embok, T. Steven Cotter

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

Industry 3.0 automation emerged replacing human labor with high volume processes and robotics. Industry 4.0, cyber-physical systems, and Industry 5.0, mass customization and cognitive systems, are in the early stages of emergence. Research into the impact of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 is focused at the strategic or organizational levels or on the technological challenges. Research into the impact of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 on engineering management has been limited to their impact on project management. This leaves open the question of the directions in which ASEM should evolve the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) under the emergence of Industry …

Impact Of A Localized Lean Six Sigma Implementation On Overall Patient Safety And Process Efficiency, Luvianca Gil, Pilar Pazos, Mamadou Seck, Rolando Delaguila

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

Continuous quality improvement tools have caught the attention of the Health Care Industry as a solution to process efficiency, patient safety and cost reduction. This research explores the impact of a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) process improvement initiative in overall process efficiency and patient safety in two Labor and Delivery (L+D) units of two large hospital providers. This study focuses on the application of modeling and simulation methodology to investigate the influence of a localized process improvement intervention on the overall L+D unit output, by considering patient flow, system capacity and unit performance. The simulation models capacity profiles and patient …

The Role Of Conflict Management On Virtual Team Performance And Satisfaction, Pilar Pazos, Anil Ustun, Rolando Delaguila Jan 2011

The Role Of Conflict Management On Virtual Team Performance And Satisfaction, Pilar Pazos, Anil Ustun, Rolando Delaguila

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

The role that input factors from project planning processes play on conflict emergence and conflict resolution in virtual teams is not well understood. Of particular interest for this paper is the role that factors during planning stages play in preventing interpersonal conflict, supporting conflict resolution and ultimately enhancing team outcomes in virtual team settings. This study examines the relationships among commitment to team goals, conflict management and team outcomes in virtual teams. First we provide an in depth review of relevant empirical findings. Next, we describe a study examining the relationships between three sets of variables: 1) goal commitment, 2) …
