Strokes are one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more than 795,000 people experience a stroke every year. Around 87% of all strokes are ischemic strokes making it the most common form of stroke. While ischemic strokes are treatable, current devices and methods still result in high mortality rates and high risks of hemorrhaging after treatment.
