Creating The Next Generation Of Aviation Professionals: Creating Diversity In The Next Generation, Jason T. Lorenzon Dec 2022

Creating The Next Generation Of Aviation Professionals: Creating Diversity In The Next Generation, Jason T. Lorenzon

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

Covid-19, mandatory retirement age, the 1500 Hour ATP rule and lack of future aviation professionals has lead to a global industry crisis. With the boom of the 1990’s, 9/11, the Great Recession, Covid-19, the lack of younger individuals dedicating themselves to the study of aviation has led to a current crisis of a lack of aviation professionals ready to serve the industry currently and in the future. Lorenzon will trace how the work force shortage started well over twenty years ago. Boeing and Airbus both predict that over 2.2 million new workers including over 600000 pilots will be needed. Yet …

The Universality Of Communication: Preparing The Next Generation Of Aviation Professionals, Patti J. Clark Ph.D., Doreen M. Mcgunagle Ph.D., Laura Zizka Ph.D.

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

Current aviation college programs aim to prepare the next generation of aviation professionals to meet the needs of the ever-increasing global demand for air travel. Previous literature has identified gaps in competencies that employers noted in young graduates. This study attempts to narrow that gap by focusing on the curriculum of the top 20 aviation programs in the U.S. to compare the curriculum to the skills employers cited to assess whether the courses offered in the current programs reflect the actual needs of the aviation workplace. From a survey of Aerospace and Defense (A&D) employers, ten skills were cited: Team …

Fly This Sim! Basic Aircrew Training Device (Batd) Impact On Student Progression And Retention, Jordan Stephens Oct 2018

Fly This Sim! Basic Aircrew Training Device (Batd) Impact On Student Progression And Retention, Jordan Stephens

Undergraduate Research Symposium - Prescott

The researchers’ goal was to design a project implemented in Fall 2018 which studies the effect of using a Helicopter Basic Aircrew Training Device (BATD) on helicopter flight student progression and retention. Measuring the efficacy of the BATD will allow ERAU to determine the need for purchase of additional BATDs in the future. The design included the methodology and preparation of all of the materials required to undertake the Fall project. This included a student focus group design, student survey design, student progress tracker, BATD utilization tracker, data analysis plan, design and testing of the practical skills to be practiced …

Implementing Immersive Virtual Reality In An Aviation/Aerospace Teaching And Learning Paradigm, Tom Haritos, Stephanie G. Fussell Aug 2018

Implementing Immersive Virtual Reality In An Aviation/Aerospace Teaching And Learning Paradigm, Tom Haritos, Stephanie G. Fussell

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

The ubiquity of computing technology has revolutionized the workplace and has also had a significant impact on education. The use of interactive simulations based on virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) has gained wide acceptance and become a prominent mechanism for learning to occur. Interactive simulations may afford unique learning advantages revealed as effective knowledge retention and skill transfer when information is presented using multi-modal sensory approach. The goal of VR is to create an environment that mimics real world complexities; one that offers comparable stimuli in the virtual environment (VE) to elicit cognitive and psychomotor …

Marketing Analysis Of Scholarly Journals In A Social World, Hunter Watson Mar 2018

Marketing Analysis Of Scholarly Journals In A Social World, Hunter Watson

Discovery Day - Prescott

The next methodology to the Airline Quality Rating (AQR) Social Media metrics is to determine if scholarly platforms for future use can benefit the AQR. The AQR authored by Dr. Brent Bowen and Dr. Dean Headley introduced the Airline Quality Rating (AQR) in 1993 as an objective method for comparing and scoring airline performance in areas deemed to be important for consumers. The quantitative metrics from utilizing new marketing techniques have increased the audience members attracted to this report. With a digitalized driven society, social media has been the main benefactor in gaining new attention. Continuing on the process to …

Extracurricular Undergraduate Research: Student Perspectives And Experiences, Steven Goetz, Matthew Romero, Michael Robertson

ASA Multidisciplinary Research Symposium

This qualitative research examined the experiences and perspectives of undergraduate researchers to understand why they engaged in their research, what benefits they gained from the experience, and what challenges they faced in the conduct of their research.

Utilizing Guided Simulation In Conjunction With Digital Learning Tools In Air Traffic Control Training To Enhance Learning At The Collegiate Level, Allison Little, Benjamin Cook, Holly Hughes, Kyle Wilkerson Mar 2017

Utilizing Guided Simulation In Conjunction With Digital Learning Tools In Air Traffic Control Training To Enhance Learning At The Collegiate Level, Allison Little, Benjamin Cook, Holly Hughes, Kyle Wilkerson

Discovery Day - Prescott

Students in an air traffic control program are required to learn and apply advance knowledge and skills in a limited time frame. All students learn at different rates as well as through different learning styles. Swivl is a video capture tool designed to enhance student learning by allowing students to refer back to their individual classroom lab training session videos via an online portal. Swivl is being utilized in two ATC lab courses. During this research, two technological shortcomings were discovered: (1) Swivl lacks the ability to capture audio from the COA’s existing communication software and (2) Swivl cannot focus …
