Creating A Short Scale For In-Flight Experience Quality, Rian Mehta, Stephen Rice Dec 2016

Creating A Short Scale For In-Flight Experience Quality, Rian Mehta, Stephen Rice

Aeronautics Faculty Publications

Customer service and satisfaction is of great importance to aviation industry as it has an economic impact on the airlines. Customer’s in-flight experience, is tied into their satisfaction with that airline, and in turn has become an area of competition between airlines. This study seeks to develop a statistically valid and reliable scale to empirically measure the quality of the in-flight experience that a passenger would witness on a commercial airline flight within the United States. Actual consumers from the general public were used for each of the five stages of the process, along with input from aviation experts, to …

Consumer Likelihood To Complain In The U.S. Commercial Airline Industry, Xinpei Lu Dec 2016

Consumer Likelihood To Complain In The U.S. Commercial Airline Industry, Xinpei Lu

Theses and Dissertations

Consumer emotions play an important role in the marketplace nowadays, which can either directly or indirectly affect the marketing outcomes. Consumer complaints are believed to occur if consumers begin to generate negative emotions due to an unfavorable service experience. However, there are also existing controversies. Moreover, males and females tended to show different attitudes towards complaining in different situations. There is a great significance of doing the research of consumer complaints in commercial airline industry because a majority of the predominant research concentrates on the consumer complaint behaviors in market places such as restaurant, hospital, hotel, and shopping mall. The …

Consumer Perceptions About Pilot Training: An Emotional Response., Timothy G. Rosser Dec 2016

Consumer Perceptions About Pilot Training: An Emotional Response., Timothy G. Rosser

Theses and Dissertations

Civilian pilot training has followed a traditional path for several decades. With a potential pilot shortage approaching, ICAO proposed a new paradigm in pilot training methodology called the Multi-Crew Pilot License. This new methodology puts a pilot in the cockpit of an airliner with significantly less flight time experience than the traditional methodology. The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent gender, country of origin and pilot training methodology effect an aviation consumer’s willingness to fly. Additionally, this study attempted to determine what emotions mediate a consumer’s decision. This study surveyed participants from India and the United …

An Examination Of How Ratings Of Airlines Are Effected By Different Types Of Information: A Mediation Analysis, Abdullah Selim Ozyurek Dec 2016

An Examination Of How Ratings Of Airlines Are Effected By Different Types Of Information: A Mediation Analysis, Abdullah Selim Ozyurek

Theses and Dissertations

Many dynamics directly or indirectly influence the decision-making process. An individual’s demographic features, such as gender, country of origin, and emotions are some of the dynamics. In the aviation domain, air passengers purchase their air travel tickets under those dynamics. The purpose of this study was to determine if the airline type, gender of participants, and participants’ country of origin had an effect on ratings of an individual’s perception of safety and willingness to fly, and which emotions had a mediating effect on this relationship. The study included Lufthansa Airlines and Turkish Airlines from Europe. The affect was the participants’ …

Trust In Automation: A Study Of Helicopter Pilot Perception On Enhanced Flight Vision Systems (Efvs), Nicholas Colby Currie Sep 2016

Trust In Automation: A Study Of Helicopter Pilot Perception On Enhanced Flight Vision Systems (Efvs), Nicholas Colby Currie

Theses and Dissertations

Trust in automation is a growing field of research that serves a vital role in understanding how humans interact with modern technology. Though automation is certainly becoming more prevalent in many professions, it has become a mainstay in the modern helicopter cockpit. One particular piece of modern aviation technology that incorporates a significant amount of automation is Enhance Flight Vision Systems (EFVS). EFVS technology provides pilots with a wealth of information that enables them to “see” under low visibility conditions, thereby increasing their situational awareness. Though the benefits of EFVS technology are easily recognizable, it is still an automated system …
