Technology Influences On Small Logistics Providers: A Case Study Analysis, Pietro Evangelista, Alan Mckinnon, Edward Sweeney Sep 2006

Technology Influences On Small Logistics Providers: A Case Study Analysis, Pietro Evangelista, Alan Mckinnon, Edward Sweeney

Conference papers

ICT has triggered many changes in the logistics service industry. New technology is reshaping the organisation and structure of this industry as ICT impacts significantly on the operations of 3PLs. Within this process, while large 3PLs are gaining substantial benefits from technology usage, the nature of changes resulting from ICT usage in small 3PLs remains unclear. This is critical particularly for those markets populated by a high number of small 3PLs such as the Italian logistics industry. From the research point of view, there is still a gap in the literature where the role of technological capability in small 3PLs …

Correlating Factors Between Student Participation And Student Learning Via A Service Learning Project In Secondary Education: A Case Study, Shawn V. Jensen Jan 2006

Correlating Factors Between Student Participation And Student Learning Via A Service Learning Project In Secondary Education: A Case Study, Shawn V. Jensen

Theses and Dissertations

In this study a service-learning project was conducted with secondary students in a construction technology based course. Three research questions were considered; (1) does service learning projects help to engage student participation, (2) can students learn the course curriculum while participating in a service learning project, and (3) is there a correlation between student participation and student learning as it pertains to service learning projects? The data was collected through surveys, observations, interviews, and evaluations. The researcher concluded the following from the study; 92% of the students were actively participating in the two week service project, 76% of the students …

Dairy Shed Wastewater Treatment By Anaerobic Digestion Technology, Ling Tie, Muttucumaru Sivakumar Jan 2006

Dairy Shed Wastewater Treatment By Anaerobic Digestion Technology, Ling Tie, Muttucumaru Sivakumar

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

Continued growth and consolidation of the livestock industry such as dairy industry has generated large-quantities and high-strength manure, which has long been identified as a major contributor to diffuse source pollution in Australia. However, conventional dairy shed wastewater treatment practices in Australia such as two pond systems still do not provide sufficient treatment. In addition, relevant laws and regulations in terms of nutrient management plans and manure solids disposal require new waste management approaches. Anaerobic digestion (AD) is an efficient, small footprint, cost effective and sustainable technology that should be applied in Australian dairy farms, and has the potential not …

Membrane Bioreactor Technology For Decentralised Wastewater Treatment, Nichanan Tadkaew, Long Nghiem, Muttucumaru Sivakumar Jan 2006

Membrane Bioreactor Technology For Decentralised Wastewater Treatment, Nichanan Tadkaew, Long Nghiem, Muttucumaru Sivakumar

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

Driven by stricter environmental regulations and legalisation on wastewater discharge and shrinking fresh water resources, water treatment has become an area of significant concern while at the same time there is a growing interest in utilising non-traditional water resources by means of water reclamation and water recycling.

Review Of The Book - Teaching About Technology: An Introduction To The Philosophy Of Technology For Non-Philosophers, Vincent Childress Jan 2006

Review Of The Book - Teaching About Technology: An Introduction To The Philosophy Of Technology For Non-Philosophers, Vincent Childress

Publications

Marc de Vries' latest book, Teaching about Technology: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Technology for Non-Philosophers, was interesting to the reviewer because it provided a link between philosophies of technology and the nature of the technology curriculum more than any other philosophy-related work he has read. The book is intended for use with pre-service teachers, graduate students, and others who are interested in teaching technology. Teaching about Technology is part of a series of books on science and technology that is edited by William Cobern of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The editorial board for the series is …

New Perspectives: Technology Teacher Education And Engineering Design, Roger B. Hill Jan 2006

New Perspectives: Technology Teacher Education And Engineering Design, Roger B. Hill

Publications

Initiatives to integrate engineering design within the field of technology education are increasingly evident (Lewis, 2005; Wicklein, 2006). Alliances between technology education and engineering were prominent in the development of the Standards for Technological Literacy (International Technology Education Association, 2000), and leaders from both disciplines have expressed support for the outcomes described in the Standards (Bybee, 2000; Council of the National Academy of Engineering, 2000; Dugger, Meade, Delany, and Nichols, 2003; Gorham, Newberry, and Bickart, 2003). The National Science Foundation (NSF) has also encouraged and funded opportunities for technology educators and engineers to work collaboratively. The Bridges for Engineering Education …
