The Localized Corrosion Behavior Of 6% Mo And 316l Stainless Steels In Chloride Media And The Effect Of Applied Mechanical Stress, Houssam El-Din Sabry Ahmed Jun 2003

The Localized Corrosion Behavior Of 6% Mo And 316l Stainless Steels In Chloride Media And The Effect Of Applied Mechanical Stress, Houssam El-Din Sabry Ahmed

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Electrochemical techniques were applied to study the crevice corrosion resistance of two types of stainless steel alloys namely, conventional 316L and super austenitic 6% Mo in acidified 3% NaCl solution at room temperature. Potentiodynamic results showed that 6% Mo alloy possessed a remarkable resistance to crevice corrosion compared to 316L alloy when tested in the same solution. The breakdown potential at which passivity broke down for 316L alloy was 0.00 m V, SCE, the corresponding value for 6% Mo alloy could not be reached up to the potential value of 700 m V, SCE. 316L alloy suffered extremely from crevice …

Comparative Study Of The Seismic Bahavior Of Anchored And Unanchored Steel Tanks, Mohamed Al Sayed Abd Al Latif Al Kashef Feb 2003

Comparative Study Of The Seismic Bahavior Of Anchored And Unanchored Steel Tanks, Mohamed Al Sayed Abd Al Latif Al Kashef

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis presents a comparative study of the seismic response of anchored and unanchored steel tanks and, in particular, it evaluates the safety of the tank shell against buckling. The study inspected design check methodologies outlined in current codes and standards for steel tanks under seismic loads. Numerous tank dimensions were selected for an extensive parametric study, and these tanks were evaluated under varying earthquake intensities. Tank shells were originally designed using a factor of safety of 2, according to the prevailing codes. The buckling phenomenon of steel liquid-filled shells was carefully evaluated, and a comparison was made between the …

Utilization Of Slag And Dust Generated From Iron And Steel Industry In Egypt, Yasser Sayed Korany Feb 2000

Utilization Of Slag And Dust Generated From Iron And Steel Industry In Egypt, Yasser Sayed Korany

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis presents proposed environmentally friendly construction materials by utilizing slags and dust generated from steel industry in Egypt. Electrical Arc Furnace (EAF) dust is suggested to be used as an alternative to the conventional pigments for mortars and as a chemical resistance agent too. While air-cooled Blast Furnace (BF) slag, Basic Oxygen-converter Furnace (BOF) slag, and EAF slag are proposed to replace fine minerals in preparing cement floor hardeners and screed mortars for new and existing concrete floors. Furthermore, all slag types are also proposed to replace coarse aggregates in producing cement masonry units and paving stone interlocks. The …
