The Design And Construction Of A Laboratory Model Fluidized Bed Reactor, Godfrey Paul Howard Jun 1956

The Design And Construction Of A Laboratory Model Fluidized Bed Reactor, Godfrey Paul Howard

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Fluidization has become a new and important unit operation in roasting, calcining, and drying ores because of the economy and ease of handling that it affords. Because of these reasons, and since the Montana School of Mines Metallurgical Laboratory does not have an operating model of a fluidized bed reactor, it was decided to design and construct an operating model for future research in the laboratory.

Modern Hydraulic Filling In Underground Metal Mines, Rainer Gevers May 1956

Modern Hydraulic Filling In Underground Metal Mines, Rainer Gevers

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

While the practice of back-filling is almost as old as mining, it was only when modern machines made possible the removal of vast tonnages of rock, that the support of underground workings-- by filling work-out stopes-- became peremptory from both the humane and economic aspects.

Shaft-Sinking Investigation, Johan De Beer May 1956

Shaft-Sinking Investigation, Johan De Beer

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

During the past few years there has been a tremendous advance in the rate of sinking shafts. The sinking of shafts has always been one of the more costly and time consuming operations in the development of a mine. Shaft sinking is a long-term operation and only in the past few years has there been a remarkable increase in the rate of sinking.

The Gallium-Indium Constitutional Diagram, Richard E. Gaffney May 1951

The Gallium-Indium Constitutional Diagram, Richard E. Gaffney

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Because of the discrepancy as to whether there is solid solubility in the gallium-indium system, and the fact that no alloys with less than 1% indium were ever investigated; the possibility of solid solubility in either or both ends of the diagram was not overlooked. According to Hume-Rothery, two alloys with the same relative positions on the Periodic Chart should have about the same alloying habits.

Polarographic Analysis Applied To Metallurgical Solutions And Products, Donald W. Johnson May 1951

Polarographic Analysis Applied To Metallurgical Solutions And Products, Donald W. Johnson

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The polarograph has been applied to a large number of chemical and metallurgical analyses, and is especially applicable to solution control analysis and to the determination of minute quantities of ions in the presence of large amounts of other ions.

Determination Of The Activities Of Indium And Mercury And The Vapor Pressures Of Mercury Over These Amalgams From 0.00216 To 0.02494 Mole Fraction Indium At 25 C And From 0.00067 To 0.02410 Mole Fraction Indium At 70 C By Electromotive Force Measurements, Arthur H. Lutts May 1951

Lutts

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

This work was performed to determine by experimental means the activities of both indium and mercury and the vapor pressures of mercury over these amalgams at 25 and 70 C.

A Determination Of Reflectivity Of Opaque Ore Minerals With A Weston Ii Light Meter, Louis L. Bergan May 1951

A Determination Of Reflectivity Of Opaque Ore Minerals With A Weston Ii Light Meter, Louis L. Bergan

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Measurements of reflectivity of opaque ore minerals can be made with the common photographic light meter and a standard reflecting microscope, both of which are available to most Geology laboratories. During the course of the investigation, approximately 30 minerals were examined, of which 10 were duplicates. Comparable results, for the most part within 3% of previously determined valued, were obtained.

Resistance Of Solid Inconel To Attack By Liquid Indium, David C. Hendra May 1951

Resistance Of Solid Inconel To Attack By Liquid Indium, David C. Hendra

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The role of liquid metals in industry is rapidly becoming of increasing importance. The physical and chemical tendencies of metals in the liquid condition must be ascertained before a metal in this form can be put to practical usage. In very many stages of mineral processing and recovery, in molten-metal baths for temperature control on heat treating, and in several industries where heat transfer is an important aspect, metals may be at one time or another in a liquid condition.

An Investigation Of The Gallium-Indium Binary System, Allen D. Kennedy May 1950

An Investigation Of The Gallium-Indium Binary System, Allen D. Kennedy

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Twenty-four alloys, at 5 weight per cent or smaller intervals, were investigated by the thermal method. Very low temperatures had to be attained, because most of the alloy melts supercooled remarkably. Analysis showed only a liquidus and solidus line, and the solidus temperature was the same for each alloy.
