The effect of the sputtering parameters on the mechanical tribology properties of Titanium Aluminum Nitride coating on the tungsten cabide insert tool in the dry turning of tool steel has been investigated. The coating was deposited using a Direct Current magnetron sputtering system with various substrate biases (-79 to -221 V) and nitrogen flow rates (30 to 72 sccm). The dry turning test was carried out on a Computer Numeric Code machine using an optimum cutting parameter setting. The external surface hardness of friction stir welded aluminum alloy 6063 pipe joint was investigated in this paper. The 89mm of outside diameter pipe with 5mm of wall thickness was used as test pipe piece for this experiment on closed butt joint configuration by utilising Bridgeport 2216 CNC milling machine and orbital clamping unit specially designed to cater for this task and function. Several welded samples were produced on varying process parameters which were successfully joined by using a non-consumable tool with a flat shoulder and a cylindrical pin.

A cylinder of Carbon Steel S45C with a ferrite and pearlite structure was analysed to improve the hardness and surface layer as well as the toughness. Accordingly, it is important to undertake a heat treatment process for the hardness and surface layer of this steel. The heat teatment process was carried out using induction heating with five different temperatures of 800°C, 900°C, 1000°C, 1100°C and 1200 °C followed by water quenching with certain cooling speed. High-strength aluminum is used extensively in industry, with welding being a widely used fabrication method. This work focuses on welding of 6061-T651 aluminum and establishment of the hardness-tensile properties relationship in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of a gas metal arc weld using 4043 filler material. Test welds were prepared from 12.7-mm-thick plate with a single-V weld preparation. Base plate temperatures were measured with an array of eight embedded thermocouples during welding, relating temperature to properties at intervals from the weld. Like many other intermetallic materials, MoSi2 coatings are typically hard, but prone to catastrophic failure due to their low toughness at ambient temperature. In this paper, a self-assembled hierarchical structure that closely resembles that of nacre (i.e., mother of pearl) was developed in a MoSi2 -based coating through a simple, yet cost-effective, depostion technique. The newly formed coating is tough and can withstand multiple indentations at high loads. Key design features responsible for this remarkable outcome were identified. Thermal efficiency of the gas turbines is influenced by the operating temperature of the hot gas path components. The material used for the hot gas path components can only withstand temperature up to a certain limit. Thermal barrier coatings (TBC) provide the additional thermal protection for these components and help the gas turbine achieve higher firing temperatures. Traditionally available yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) TBCs have a limitation up to 1200 C due to their phase transformation.
