Effect Of Cldh On Rebar Corrosion Behavior In Chloride Contaminated Neutral Pore Solutions, Yu-Ming Tang, Le Niu, Yu Zuo

Journal of Electrochemistry

The effect of calcined LDH-MgAl-CO3 on rebar corrosion behavior in chloride ion contaminated neutral concrete pore solutions was investigated in this paper.Corrosion potentials of rebars in pore solutions after treatment with CLDH were higher than before treatment.According to polarization tests, passivated region of rebars in pore solutions after treatment with CLDH was found apparently instead of activation.EIS tests showed that CLDH made the impedance of specimens increase. The measurements of pH and chloride ion concentration after treatment indicated that / of pore solutions decreased by 4~5 magnitude orders.

A.S. Md Abdul Haseeb

Corrosive characteristics of biodiesel are important for long term durability of engine parts. The present study aims to compare the corrosion behavior of aluminum, copper and stainless steel in both petroleum diesel and palm biodiesel. Immersion tests in biodiesel (B100) and diesel (B0) were carried out at 80 °C for 1200 h. At the end of the test, corrosion characteristic was investigated by weight loss measurements and changes on the exposed metal surface. Surface morphology was examined by optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM/EDS). Fuels were analyzed by using TAN analyzer, FTIR, GCMS and …

Tribological Comparison Of Traditional And Advanced Firearm Coatings, Greg Boban Jul 2010

Tribological Comparison Of Traditional And Advanced Firearm Coatings, Greg Boban

Master's Theses

The objective of this project is to find which type of coating has the best performance characteristics for finishing firearms. This is accomplished by measuring and comparing several performance characteristics, such as: adhesion, hardness, wear resistance, friction control, and corrosion resistance. Appearance is not a factor since any exterior coating that is flashy can be subdued or camouflaged with special purpose paints, which have proven durable enough for such purposes. Cost will not be a limiting factor for this experiment, but will be discussed in the conclusion as a secondary concern. This data will be used to identify the best …

Mitigation Of Chloride And Sulfate Based Corrosion In Reinforced Concrete Via Electrokinetic Nanoparticle Treatment, Kunal Kupwade-Patil Jul 2010

Mitigation Of Chloride And Sulfate Based Corrosion In Reinforced Concrete Via Electrokinetic Nanoparticle Treatment, Kunal Kupwade-Patil

Doctoral Dissertations

Concrete is a porous material which is susceptible to the migration of highly deleterious species such as chlorides and sulfates. Various external sources, including sea salt spray, direct seawater wetting, deicing salts and chlorides can contaminate reinforced concrete. Chlorides diffuse into the capillary pores of concrete and come into contact with the reinforcement. When chloride concentration at the reinforcement exceeds a threshold level it breaks down the passive oxide layer, leading to chloride induced corrosion. The application of electrokinetics using positively charged nanoparticles for corrosion protection in reinforced concrete structures is an emerging technology. This technique involves the principle of …

Elimination Of Deck Joints Using A Corrosion Resistant Frp Approach, Ashok Reddy Aleti Jul 2010

Elimination Of Deck Joints Using A Corrosion Resistant Frp Approach, Ashok Reddy Aleti

Doctoral Dissertations

The research presented herein describes the development of durable link slabs for jointless bridge decks based on using FRP grid for reinforcement. Specifically, the ductility of the FRP material was utilized to accommodate bridge deck deformations imposed by girder deflection, temperature variations, and concrete shrinkage. It would also provide a solution to a number of deterioration problems associated with bridge deck joints.

The design concept of the link slabs was then examined to form the basis of design for FRP grid link slabs. Improved design of FRP grid link slab/concrete deck slab interface was confirmed in the numerical analysis. The …

Corrosion-Related Gas Measurements And Analysis For A Suite Of Coals In Staged Pulverized Coal Combustion, Todd A. Reeder

Theses and Dissertations

Eleven gas species, including CO, CO2, H2, H2O, H2S, HCl, NOX, O2, SO2, COS and SO3, were measured in a 150 kWth, staged, pulverized coal, down-fired combustor using a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, gas chromatograph (GC), and a Horiba PG-250 5-gas analyzer. Additional gases such as HCN, NH3, CH4, and other hydrocarbons were also measured. Seven coals of varying rank and composition were investigated. Measurements were obtained in reducing (S.R. = 0.85) and oxidizing (S.R. = 1.15) conditions. In particular, sulfur- and chlorine-containing species including H2S, SO2, COS, SO3, and HCl are discussed. In the reducing zone, all four …

Studied Corrosion Behaviors Of Reinforcing Steel In Concrete By A Single-Dimensional Array Electrode, Lan-Qiang Li, Shi-Gang Dong, Rong-Gui Du, Chang-Jian Lin

Journal of Electrochemistry

A single-dimensional array electrode was developed as a new electrochemical technique to image corrosion potential, galvanic current and polarization curves of reinforcing steel in concrete during corrosion process.Combining with the polarization behavior for each micro-electrode,the interactions between corrosion macrocell and corrosion microcell of the steel in concrete were evaluated. It was noticed that the corrosion macrocell and microcell occurred independently in difference regions at the initial stage of corrosion. The corrosion macrocell current can be in situ followed by corrosion potential imaging. The corrosion propagation of steel in concrete is closely related to the interactions between corrosion macrocell and corrosion microcell.

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

In a recent investigation Mills and Riaz [1] showed that industrial oxide refractory corrosion by liquid oxides could be changed by the application of a small voltage across the liquid oxide-refractory interface. They ex-plained their result in terms of penetration of the refractory pores with liquid oxide. Their analysis of the corrosion effect was to some degree limited by the use of an industrial refractory material in the study. Fur-ther, it was not clear whether their findings were limited to solely industrial refractories or had wider ranging application to more dense ceramic type solid oxide systems. In this study, a …
