The article studied the effect of annealing on the structure and properties of zirconium dioxide coatings obtained by detonation spraying. Detonation spraying was realized on a computerized detonation spray ing complex of the new generation CCDS2000. Determined that coatings made of zirconium dioxide are characterized by high adhesive strength of adherence to the substrate. Thermal annealing of coated samples was performed at temperatures of 900-1200C. It was determined that the microhardness of zir conium dioxide coatings increases by 10-25% depending on the annealing temperature after annealing. The results of nanoindentation showed that the nanohardness of the coatings after …

Experimental Investigation Of Laser Scan Strategy On The Microstructure, Mechanical Properties And Residual Stress Of Inconel 718 Parts Fabricated By Selective Laser Melting, Kiriti Mamidi Aug 2020

Experimental Investigation Of Laser Scan Strategy On The Microstructure, Mechanical Properties And Residual Stress Of Inconel 718 Parts Fabricated By Selective Laser Melting, Kiriti Mamidi

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses

Inconel 718 (IN718) is a nickel-based superalloy which exhibits excellent tensile and impact resistant properties along with good corrosion resistance at high temperatures. However, due to the high toughness and work hardening, the machinability of this superalloy is low. Therefore, the selective laser melting (SLM) process has been adopted as an efficient technique to fabricate IN718 parts as it overcomes the problems associated with conventional manufacturing of superalloys. SLM is a widely used additive manufacturing technique which offers the possibility to induce multi-functionality into a single component, and thus reduce the number of components that are needed. In the SLM …

The article were studied the e ect of detonation spraying on the structure and properties of Al 2 O 3 coatings. It was determined that reducing the delay time between shots is leading to increase the hardness and elastic module of Al 2 O 3 coatings. It was found on the basis of X-ray di raction analysis that the main reason for the increasing in hardness with a decreasing in the delay time between shots is associated with increasing in the volume fraction of α -Al 2 O 3 phase. The studies of X-ray di raction presented that the highest …

Nanoindentation Characterization Of Elastic Properties Of Shales And Swelling Clay Minerals, Shengmin Luo Mar 2020

Nanoindentation Characterization Of Elastic Properties Of Shales And Swelling Clay Minerals, Shengmin Luo

Doctoral Dissertations

Oil and gas shales are a class of multiscale, multiphase, hybrid inorganic-organic sedimentary rocks that consist of a generally uniform, preferentially oriented clay matrix with randomly embedded silt and sand particles as solid inclusions. A thorough understanding of the mechanical properties of shales is crucial for the exploration and production of oil and gas in the unconventional shale reservoirs, but it can be a challenging task due to their nature of compositional heterogeneity and microstructural anisotropy. In efforts to better characterize the mechanical properties of shales across different length scales and to fundamentally understand the laws of upscaling from individual …

In this work, tungsten carbide (WC) was selected as reinforcement and the as-sprayed and remelted NiCrBSi/WC composite coatings were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, hardness test and tribology test. After spraying, WC particles are evenly distributed in the coating. The remelting process induced the decarburizing reaction of WC, resulting in the formation of dispersed W2 C. The dispersed W2 C particles play an important role in the dispersion strengthening. Meanwhile, the pores and lamellar structures …
