Bandpass: A Smart Resistance Exercise Band To Monitor Strength, Suehayla Mohieldin

Resistance exercise bands are being incorporated into clinical weight loss programs, particularly for older adults, as resistance training can mitigate the trajectory of muscle mass and bone density loss that can occur while dieting. However, adherence to home-based treatments cannot be reliably ascertained by clinicians as there is no method for clinicians to monitor patient compliance outside of the clinic. BANDPASS, a smart resistance band used for exercise, was developed to bridge the gap between clinicians and patients, allowing for easy remote monitoring of patients’ exercise performance. Western Kentucky University sends a team of engineering students to the hardware competition, an opportunity for students to design and build autonomous robots. The right execution of controllers ensures the correct analysis of information, generating efficient results and better optimizing the system. In this report, two controllers were designed. Firstly, a remotely controlled robotic arm, since there are no such type commercially available controllers. Moreover, robotic platforms are costly, so students and researchers are often unable to learn the concepts of programming industrial robots. As technology continues to advance the safety factor has increased for vehicles on the roads. However, not much has been done to help improve the safety of motorcyclist. To help to solve this problem a wireless blind spot indicator for a motorcycle helmet will be designed. It will be powered off the motorcycle and have indication zones for the left, right, and rear blind spots.
