The Influence Of Temperature On Dispersion Of Particles On Liquid Surfaces, Sathish Kumar Gurupatham, Valmiki Sooklal, A. Hensen, M. Conner Sep 2019

The Influence Of Temperature On Dispersion Of Particles On Liquid Surfaces, Sathish Kumar Gurupatham, Valmiki Sooklal, A. Hensen, M. Conner

Faculty and Research Publications

It was shown recently that small particles and powders spontaneously disperse on liquid surfaces when they come in contact with the interface for the first time (Figure 2). This happens due to the combined effect of the capillary force, buoyant weight of the particle and the viscous drag that the particles experience when they encounter the liquid surface. The particles undergo oscillations normal to the interface before they come to the equilibrium position on the interface. These oscillations, in turn, induce a flow on the interface which disperses the particles radially outward. This phenomenon has a significant role in the …

Knn Optimization For Multi-Dimensional Data, Arialdis Japa

Master of Science in Computer Science Theses

The K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm is a simple but powerful technique used in the field of data analytics. It uses a distance metric to identify existing samples in a dataset which are similar to a new sample. The new sample can then be classified via a class majority voting of its most similar samples, i.e. nearest neighbors. The KNN algorithm can be applied in many fields, such as recommender systems where it can be used to group related products or predict user preferences. In most cases, the performance of the KNN algorithm tends to suffer as the size of the …
