Investigating The Occurrence Mechanism Of Cytokine-Like Formations By The Electromagnetic Approach, Cahi̇t Canbay, Özgün Palak, Aydoğa Kallem

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This study aims to elucidate the production mechanism of cytokine-like formations secreted from T cells and similar cells by electromagnetic modeling techniques. Three Hertz dipole antennas polarized in arbitrary directions were placed without touching each other at the center of spherical T-cell models to test the Canbay hypothesis about the formation mechanism of cytokines (CHAFMOC) on T-cell surfaces. A dielectrophoretic force field was created within the gelatin layer of the T-cell model. The prepared control and electromagnetically stimulated T-cell model samples were incubated in water in a glass container in a Faraday cage for the specified period and then photographed. …

Improving Side Lobe Level Of X-Band Microstrip Rotman Lens Utilizing Nonuniform Distribution Of Output Ports, Ehsan Zareian Jahromi, Raheleh Basiri, Parvin Salehi, Hamidreza Karami Jan 2019

Improving Side Lobe Level Of X-Band Microstrip Rotman Lens Utilizing Nonuniform Distribution Of Output Ports, Ehsan Zareian Jahromi, Raheleh Basiri, Parvin Salehi, Hamidreza Karami

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new microstrip Rotman lens with enhanced side lobe level (SLL) is proposed for X-band applications. A proper nonuniform distribution of the initial width of output ports is considered to improve the SLL. The benefit of SLL improvement is not based on using additional attenuators or amplifiers at the output ports. Moreover, an analytical background is presented to investigate the resulting SLL of the proposed structure. The advantage of SLL enhancement is obtained at all noncorner scan angles considering 10 GHz operating frequency. As the middle input port is excited, more than 3 dB of SLL enhancement is achieved at …

Fuzzy-Logic-Based Robust Speed Control Of Switched Reluctance Motor For Low And High Speeds, Zeki̇ Omaç Jan 2019

Fuzzy-Logic-Based Robust Speed Control Of Switched Reluctance Motor For Low And High Speeds, Zeki̇ Omaç

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Switched reluctance motor (SRM) is operated at high magnetic saturation to generate large torque. The flux linkage of SRM is a nonlinear function with phase current and rotor position because of the high magnetic saturation. Also, the performance of the speed controller for the SRM driver system can be negatively affected by noise, disturbances, and inertia of load torque. Therefore, the fuzzy speed controller for the SRM driver system was developed in this study. In addition, a dynamic model of SRM was simulated in Matlab/Simulink software. Based on the results obtained in this study, the speed of the SRM was …

Detection Of Hemorrhage In Retinal Images Using Linear Classifiers And Iterative Thresholding Approaches Based On Firefly And Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithms, Kemal Adem, Mahmut Heki̇m, Seli̇m Demi̇r Jan 2019

Detection Of Hemorrhage In Retinal Images Using Linear Classifiers And Iterative Thresholding Approaches Based On Firefly And Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithms, Kemal Adem, Mahmut Heki̇m, Seli̇m Demi̇r

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

We propose a novel iterative thresholding approach based on firefly and particle swarm optimization to be used for the detection of hemorrhages, one of the signs of diabetic retinopathy disease. This approach consists of the enhancement of the image using basic preprocessing methods, the segmentation of vessels with the help of Gabor and Top-hat transformation for the removal of the vessels from the image, the determination of the number of regions with hemorrhages and pixel counts in these regions using firefly algorithm (FFA) and particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSOA)-based iterative thresholding, and the detection of hemorrhages with the help of …

Improvement Of Quantized Adaptive Switching Median Filter For Impulse Noise Reduction In Gray-Scale Digital Images, Haidi Ibrahim, Ahmed Khaldoon Abdalameer Jan 2019

Improvement Of Quantized Adaptive Switching Median Filter For Impulse Noise Reduction In Gray-Scale Digital Images, Haidi Ibrahim, Ahmed Khaldoon Abdalameer

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Digital images may suffer from fixed value impulse noise due to several causes. The noise significantly degrades the quality of the image, which may affect the subsequence image processing. Therefore, a noise reduction technique is required to restore the image. In this paper, a new method, which is called improvement of quantized adaptive switching median filter (IQASMF), has been proposed to reduce the fixed value impulse noise from gray-scale digital images. The implementation of IQASMF has five processing blocks. The first processing block is the noise detection block, where the noise pixel candidates are detected based on the intensity value. …
