Experimental Investigation To Inform Optimal Configurations For Dynamic Near-Field Passive Uhf Rfid Systems, Donnie E. Proffitt Ii
Experimental Investigation To Inform Optimal Configurations For Dynamic Near-Field Passive Uhf Rfid Systems, Donnie E. Proffitt Ii
Theses and Dissertations--Mechanical Engineering
RFID has been characterized as a “disruptive technology” that has the potential to revolutionize numerous key sectors. A key advantage of passive RFID applications is the ability to wirelessly transmit automatic identification and related information using very little power. This paper presents an experimental investigation to inform the optimal configuration for programming passive ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID media in dynamic applications. Dynamic programming solutions must be designed around the tag’s functionality, the physical programming configuration and environment. In this investigation, we present a methodology to determine an optimal configuration to maximize the systems programming efficiency for dynamic applications.
Design And Optimization Of A Thermal Capacitor, Karen Nielson, Jordan Tracy Cox
Design And Optimization Of A Thermal Capacitor, Karen Nielson, Jordan Tracy Cox
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
Team Hot Stuff designed a thermal capacitor for Senior Design I at Utah State University. This thermal capacitor is intended for use in the food service industry as a low-cost alternative to chafers. Chafers are platters which use oil burners to keep food warm. The client for this thermal capacitor is Thermal Management Technologies (TMT), a company specializing in thermal science solutions whose mission is “to provide simple, practical thermal science solutions to a wide range of platforms including: Industry, Defense, and Space”1. The founder and president of TMT, Dr. J. Clair Batty, serves as a mentor for …
Fault Observability In Distributed Power System, Hamidreza Nazaripouya
Fault Observability In Distributed Power System, Hamidreza Nazaripouya
LSU Master's Theses
Fault observability as well as fault location algorithms in distributed power system are studied in this thesis. The importance of finding the fault location in a distribution system with the purpose of increasing reliability and decreasing the maintenance time and cost is discussed. Then, different existing fault location algorithms and approaches in the literature are introduced and compared. Subsequently, a new strategy to achieve fault observability of power systems while aiming minimum required number of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) in the network is proposed. The method exploits the nodal voltage and mesh current analyses where the impedance and admittance matrices …
Coordinated Control Of Power Electronic Converters In An Autonomous Microgrid, Gholamreza Dehnavi
Coordinated Control Of Power Electronic Converters In An Autonomous Microgrid, Gholamreza Dehnavi
Theses and Dissertations
Advances in power electronics and generation technologies have increased the viability of distributed generation systems. A microgrid is a special category of distributed generation systems that is distinguished by its size and the ability to operate independently as an islanded system. As long as a microgrid is connected to a large grid, quality of the voltage is supported by the main grid and each power source connected to the microgrid generates independently. In contrast, in the islanded operation of microgrids and in electrical islands such as shipboard distribution systems, dynamics are strongly dependent on the connected sources and on the …
Predictive Pattern Discovery In Dynamic Data Systems, Wenjing Zhang
Predictive Pattern Discovery In Dynamic Data Systems, Wenjing Zhang
Dissertations (1934 -)
This dissertation presents novel methods for analyzing nonlinear time series in dynamic systems. The purpose of the newly developed methods is to address the event prediction problem through modeling of predictive patterns. Firstly, a novel categorization mechanism is introduced to characterize different underlying states in the system. A new hybrid method was developed utilizing both generative and discriminative models to address the event prediction problem through optimization in multivariate systems.
Secondly, in addition to modeling temporal dynamics, a Bayesian approach is employed to model the first-order Markov behavior in the multivariate data sequences. Experimental evaluations demonstrated superior performance over conventional …
Environmental Implications Of Pavements: A Life Cycle View, Bin Yu
Environmental Implications Of Pavements: A Life Cycle View, Bin Yu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Environmental aspect of pavement, unlike its economic counterpart, is seldom considered in the theoretical study and field practices. As a highly energy and material intensive infrastructure, pavement has great potential to contribute to the environment protection, which, in root, depends on the in-depth understanding of the environmental impacts, holistically and specifically. A life cycle assessment (LCA) model is used to fulfill the goal.
This research firstly carried out extensive literature review of LCA studies on pavement to identify the major research gaps, including: incompleteness of the methodology, controversy of the functional unit, and unawareness of feedstock energy of asphalt, etc. …
Control Of Smart Building Using Advanced Scada, Vivin Thomas Samuel
Control Of Smart Building Using Advanced Scada, Vivin Thomas Samuel
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
ABSTRACT
For complete control of the building, a proper SCADA implementation and the optimization strategy has to be build. For better communication and efficiency a proper channel between the Communication protocol and SCADA has to be designed.
This paper concentrate mainly between the communication protocol, and the SCADA implementation, for a better optimization and energy savings is derived to large scale industrial buildings. The communication channel used in order to completely control the building remotely from a distant place. For an efficient result we consider the temperature values and the power ratings of the equipment so that while controlling the …
Transferability Of Jarvis-Type Models Developed And Re-Parameterized For Maize To Estimate Stomatal Resistance Of Soybean: Analyses On Model Calibration, Validation, Performance, Sensitivity, And Elasticity, Denis Mutiibwa, Suat Irmak
Biological Systems Engineering: Papers and Publications
In a previous study by the same authors, a new modified Jarvis model (NMJ-model) was developed, calibrated, and validated to estimate stomatal resistance (rs) for maize canopy on an hourly time step. The NMJ-model’s unique subfunctions, different from the original Jarvis model (J-model), include a photosynthetic photon flux density
(PPFD)-rs response subfunction developed from field measurements and a new physical term, Aexp(1/LAI), where A is the minimum stomatal resistance and LAI is the green leaf area index, to account for the influence of canopy development on rs, especially during partial canopy stage in the early season and …
A Decision Support Model For The Location Of Hand Sanitizer Dispensers In Hospitals, Laila Cure
A Decision Support Model For The Location Of Hand Sanitizer Dispensers In Hospitals, Laila Cure
Laila Cure
Compliance with hand hygiene practices is directly affected by the accessibility and availability of cleaning agents. Nevertheless, the decision of where to locate these dispensers is often not explicitly or fully addressed in the literature. In this paper, we study the problem of selecting the locations to install alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispensers throughout a hospital unit. We investigate the relevant criteria in selecting dispenser locations that promote compliance with hand hygiene practices, propose metrics for the evaluation of various location configurations, and formulate a dispenser location optimization model that incorporates such criteria. A complete methodology to collect data and obtain …
