On-Line Scheduling Method Of Manufacturing System Based On Vs Algorithm For Reference Pattern, J. A. Trujillo, Clemente Cárdenas, Zbigniew Pasek, Enrique Baeyens

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Publications

In this paper, a scheduling method is developed provide planning for manufacturing plants with multiple coordinating cells. The controls for reconfigurable manufacturing systems have to be capable not only of identifying exceptions on-line, but also simultaneously developing on-line strategies for unpredictable customer order changes or inaccurate estimate of processing times. The approach exploits virtual supervisor (VS) concept developing an algorithm which provides access to all system information during program execution and thus can readily monitor the overall system performance creating reference pattern. The goal is to minimize expected costs of part tardiness and/or earliness. A solution methodology based on a …

Distributed Generation Diversity Level For Optimal Investment Planning, An D. T Le, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Michael Negnevitsky, Gerard Ledwich Jan 2006

Distributed Generation Diversity Level For Optimal Investment Planning, An D. T Le, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Michael Negnevitsky, Gerard Ledwich

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The task of improving the supply quality and maintaining supply continuity during emergencies has become more feasible for a distribution company (DISCO), owing to new developments in Distributed Generation (DG) technologies. Even though the technical issues regarding DG interconnection to the main grid are of great importance and are being addressed by on-going research, it must be clearly placed in the context of on the financial performance of the utility. In this paper, a general approach to quantify the technical benefits of DG employment is proposed. The power system economic impact is assessed by evaluating supply quality, supply reliability, system …

Towards An Art And Science Of Decision Aiding For Water Management And Planning: A Participatory Modelling Process, Katherine A. Daniell, Ian White, Nils Ferrand, Alexis Tsoukias, Stewart Burn, Pascal Perez Jan 2006

Towards An Art And Science Of Decision Aiding For Water Management And Planning: A Participatory Modelling Process, Katherine A. Daniell, Ian White, Nils Ferrand, Alexis Tsoukias, Stewart Burn, Pascal Perez

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

Planning and management of water resources are faced with increasingly high levels of complexity, uncertainty and conflict. Traditional technical and top-down management strategies have proved inadequate, forcing a move to more "integrated" forms of management, planning and decision making that can include stakeholders and communities, as well as technical experts and policy makers. These integrated forms of management require not only good technical or scientific ability, but a range of "art-like" skills including communication, creativity and the capacity to acknowledge and integrate diverse points of view. However, processes designed to aid such inter-organisational or multi-stakeholder decisionmaking are rare and in …

Stereoscopic Visualization And Editing Of Automatic Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (Aaa) Measurements For Stent Graft Planning, Luping Zhou, Yaping Wang, Lin-Chia Goh, Ralf A. Kockro, Luis Serra Jan 2006

Stereoscopic Visualization And Editing Of Automatic Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (Aaa) Measurements For Stent Graft Planning, Luping Zhou, Yaping Wang, Lin-Chia Goh, Ralf A. Kockro, Luis Serra

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

For stent graft selection in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) anatomic considerations are important. They determine GO/NO-GO of the treatment and help customize the stent. Current systems for AAA stent insertion planning based on pre-operative CT and MR of the patient do not provide an intuitive interface to view the resulting measurements against the pre-operative CT/MR. Subsequent modifications of the measurements are frequent when automatic algorithms are inaccurate. However, 3D editing is difficult to achieve because of the limitations of monoscopic displays and 2D interface. In this paper, we present a system for automatic AAA measurement and interactive …
