The paper presents the results of an inventory of sources of air emissions from the city of Nowy Sacz (Poland) with regard to pollutant emissions from road transport, industrial processes, combustion plants and low-emissions from household furnaces. Particular attention has been devoted to assessing the impact of traffic on air quality in the city. Specified share of emissions from motor vehicles in the state of air pollution in the city center and its outskirts using the method of the atmospheric dispersion modeling.
English title: The use of mathematical modeling to assess air pollution caused by road transport.

Genetic Algorithms (GAs) are gaining popularity in many engineering and scientific applications due to their enormous advantages such as adaptibility, ability to handle non-linear, ill defined and probabilistic problems. In this paper load forecasting problem on long term basis is formulated in the frame work of Genetic Algorithms. The results of GAs are compared with the central Electricity Authority (CEA) forecasted data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
Simulation Of Temperature Variation In Parachute Inflation, D. K. Chaturvedi
Simulation Of Temperature Variation In Parachute Inflation, D. K. Chaturvedi
D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.
In this paper, the variation of temperature during parachute inflation is simulated by system dynamics methodology. In this methodology, causal loops for system have been identified and flow diagram is drawn. Flow diagram consists of flow rate variables, level variables and auxiliary variables. In causal mechanism principal feedback loops are identified. It also simplfies illustration due to various influencing factors such as pressure, rate of pressure, mass of parachute, textile characteristics, motion of folded parachute to compresion under pressure and interaction between parachute and its container/bag.

A Delphi survey was undertaken with a selection of professionals in academic, government and consulting across the world. The objective was to identify the application areas where priorities should be placed, and the current status of the research and information tools needed to address them. For this reason both modelling and application experts were included. The shifts in priorities over the last five years, and the differences in view between the three sectors are presented. The attitudes towards a range of specific research and development directions were also assessed. Later republished in the Journal of Transport Statistics, but without this, …

The paper presents the implementation of air pollution monitoring in the province of Kielce (Poland), associated with verification of the location and the measuring range of points to measure the concentrations of air pollutants. For this purpose were used calculations of the pollutants dispersion and statistical analysis of measurement results obtained on existing measuring stations. In the statistical calculations were used analysis of variance homogeneity, based on Cochran, Bartlett and Hartley tests. As a result of analysis and calculations, it was found that the original location is not always correct and does not reflect the spatial differentiation of pollutant concentrations. …

Exoerience With The Analysis Of Small Signal Stability In Longitudinal Power Systems: A Case Study With The Mexican Interconnected System, Arturo Roman Messina
A. R. Messina
In this paper a fundamental study of the small signal stability characteristics of a longitudinal system representing a major equivalent of the Mexican power system is presented. The special characteristics of the Mexican system are emphasized and a number of studies regarding the nature and sources of low frequency oscillations are discussed. These studies reveal the emergence of an undamped swing mode #tvolving the interaction of several machines and their controllers spread out over a large geographical area. The influence of system structure and loading, load effect and the

Numerical Simulations Of The Effect Of Hydrodynamic Interactions On Diffusivities Of Integral Membrane Proteins, Ashok S. Sangani, Travis L. Dodd, Daniel A. Hammer, Donald L. Koch
Ashok S. Sangani
Proteins in a biological membrane can be idealized as disks suspended in a thin viscous sheet surrounded by a fluid of lower viscosity (Saffman 1976). To determine the effect of hydrodynamic interactions on protein diffusivities in non-dilute suspensions, we numerically solve the Stokes equations of motion for a system of disks in a bounded periodic two-dimensional fluid using a multipole expansion technique. We consider both free suspensions, in which all the proteins are mobile, and fixed beds, in which a fraction of the proteins are fixed. For free suspensions, we determine both translational and rotational short-time self-diffusivities and the gradient …
